Water sweetened with sugar, is notadvisable; it causes acidity <strong>of</strong> the stomach, but water mixed witha little currant jelly, may occasionally be allowed. A small quantity <strong>of</strong> malt-beer, sweetened with a little sugar, and not drank t<strong>of</strong>ten, is exceedingly refreshing. <strong>The</strong> common prejudice againstthis beverage is entirely unfounded. Water-soups and dilute milkwith a little wheaten bread, will be sufficient nourishment. Butsoon as the fever begins to abate and the appetite returns, a morsubstantial animal diet will have to be allowed, for the reason ta considerable waste has to be repaired. A change in the course<strong>of</strong> pneumonia may render corresponding changes <strong>of</strong> this simplediet indispensable.
