This sensitiveness extendseither over the whole breast or is confined to the region of thenipples.The sensitiveness lasts for a longer or shorter period accordingthe development of the organism is more or less rapid. We areacquainted with cases of hypersesthesia of the breasts that continued until the patients were married, and spread even to otherparts of the body, particularly to the region of the stomach, uteand pudendum.The breasts are likewise liable to being attacked with pains thatare not connected with the period of pubescence, but depend upon*mechanical, traumatic or constitutional causes. They attack periodically full-grown girls or women, are seated in the mammarygland or nipples, come on in paroxysms, are lancing, tearing, draing or boring ; they are generally worse about the time of themenses, are aggravated by pressure, and, if lasting a certain timresult in the formation of small tubercles in the mammary gland,of a rounded shape, smooth and of the size of hazelnuts.8uch paroxysms of pain scarcely ever occur spoptaneously, and100 Diseases of the Female Sexual Organs.are generally caused by the continued pressure of tight garments,corsets, whalebones, or they are caused by pinching, pulling, consions, blows, etc. Sometimes they aro the result of chlorosis, tuculosis, carcinoma or constitutional syphilis. Their duration isdetermined by the continuance of the exciting causes.In treating these affections the cause has to be removed beforeanything can be expected from internal treatment.For simple hypersesthesia of the breasts Belladonna and Nuxvomica may be given. If the affection can be traced to a delay inthe appearance of the menses, Pulsatilla^ Caidophi/Uum^ Belladonnmay be useful. If the pains are stinging and the patients are atthe same time very nervous, we give Calc. carb. or Nuz vomica. Ifcaused by a blow, contusion, etc. Arnica^ Conium or Sepia may berequired. For tearing pains we give Conium 8 or Baryta carb. 6,and if seated in the nipples, we give Bismuth 6, or Calc. caust.Drawing pains in the mammae require Kreosote 3 to 6, and if seatein the nipples Zinc. met. 6. For boring pains in the mammae wegive Indigo 8 to 6, and if affecting the nipples Spigelia 8 to 6.sensation of prickling in the nipples is relieved by Sabina 3 toIf these pains result from constitutional causes we have to direcour treatment against the latter. If traceable to chlorosis, we gIron persistently, in the case of tuberculous patients Iodine; ifcarcinomatous diathesis is suspected we resort to Conium and Ranabufo; if syphilis is the cause, we give Mercuriv^ jodatus and Cinbans. At the same time the breasts have to be covered with softmaterial, and carefully protected against friction, pressure andcold.
