Aconite acts withpromptitude and efficacy, if the previously described symptoms arpresent.If a troublesome feeling of dryness is experienced in the mouth,pharynx and trachea, attended with a continual titillation in thefauces and on the posterior wall of the larynx; it' there is a setion in the throat as if dust had been inhaled ; if the cough isviolent that spasm of the glottis or asthmatic symptoms withflushed face, and heat of the head set in ; if the nerves becomeirritable and sensitive to light and noise; if the disease has beoccasioned by exposure to a draught of air, or by sudden fright ocooling off suddenly while the skin was covered with perspirationif the paroxysm breaks out at the time when the patient wants toretire at night, and is made worse by talking, drinking or cryingBelladonna 3 is to be given, whether a fever is present or not, owhether the cough is complicated with coryza, influenza, measles,acute bronchial catarrh, hysteria or hypochondria, or not. Forthese symptoms Belladonna is always preferable to Morphine or thewater of Laurocerasus; but it should be given in the form of tincture, the extract being less reliable.If the titillating cough attacks teething children; if their moutare hot and their gums red and swollen, with much saliva and redness of one cheek; if they start during sleep and are very peeviswhen awake; if the cough continues uninterruptedly after theyhave been put to bed, and if it is dry and short, we give Chainoinilla 3.
