[Ciynicijuga racemosa is likewise excellent. H.] Mezereum is undoubtedlythe chief remedy, and is especially indicated if the neuralgia sein after zoster. The general indications, as stated above, are eaverified by corresponding symptoms in the Materia Medica. Thefollowing remedies are indicated a priori^ although they have beevery little used in practice: Ranunculus sceleratus^ RhoflodendroLedum and Spigelia, Many circumstances speak in favor of thelatter, more especially the efficacy of Spigelia in neuralgia oftrigeminus. DISEASES OF THE SKIN.Ik treating of diseases of the eyes, we have pointed out severalinconveniences which render even an approxiraatively satisfactoryarrangement of the therapeutics of ophthalmic diseases a very difficult task. In regard to cutaneous affections, it is likewise alimpossible to present them from the stand-point of homoeopathicTherapeutics. In order to render such a presentation profitable,it would have to be very extensive and take in a good deal that ipurely hypothetical. The space that is allotted to us, is too limfor such a purpose. For this reason we have confined ourselves tothe most essential points, and have only stated practically veriffacts. Before, however, passing to the consideration of the specicutaneous affections, we deem it proper to briefly expound thereasons why cutaneous diseases are a sore point in the homoBopathMateria Medica.Cutaneous diseases are not, like the affections of other organs,spread over several parts of the body ; they only offer us a singsymptom, namely the cutaneous efflorescence, as a means of diagnosing the cutaneous disease and selecting the appropriate remedyThis symptom is of course accompanied by a variety of generalsymptoms, but we would go too far if we were to allow these variable companions of the cutaneous affection to decide the selectioof the remedial agent ; at all events these accessory symptoms aronly of secondary importance. Hence we only have one objectivesymptom of disease, but where do we find a corresponding symptomin the Materia Medica ? The leading symptoms of our drugs are,moreover, indicated in such a superficial and vague manner thattheir true meaning can hardly be deciphered from such a text. Inmaking this assertion, we expect to incur the censure of those whdeem it a crime even to think of the possibility of amending theMateria Medica.
