At any rate it is strange that the exhibitioof these two drugs should be so frequently and speedily followed14 Diseases of the Male Sexual Organs.orchitis which is scarcely ever observed under strictly homoeopattreatment unless the patient should commit some gross indiscretioIt might be well to inquire into this circumstance ; the result msuggest additional reasons for preferring the homoeopathic treatment of gonorrhoea. That orchitis takes place in consequence ofthe spread of the urethral inflammation through the seminal vesicles to the vas deferens and the epididymis, is distinctly shownthe painfulness of the former organs. A gonorrhoeal metastasis isout of the question, because the gonorrhoea! discharge dther continues side by side with the orchitis, or only disappears after torchitis is fully developed, not before, in the same manner as acatarrh disappears during the supervention of a more serious disease of the respiratory organs.Symptoms. Orchitis seldom sets in suddenly. Ordinarily itcommences with slight drawing pains in the spermatic cord whichis sensitive to contact. At the same time the patient experiencesviolent tearing pains in the thigh of the affected side. The weigof the testicles at first is troublesome,, then becomes painful afinally intolerable. In one or two days the epididymis becomespainful to pressure, swells with more or less rapidity, and shortafter is succeeded by an inflammatory effusion into the tunica prpria, in consequence of which the testicle very soon enlarges tosize of a fist. The pains now become agonizing; the patient has tconfine himself to a horizontal posture with the testicle properlsupported. The pain is a burning-tearing pain, most frequentlywith remissions after the fashion of rheumatic pains. The generalcondition of the patient does not suffer much, only in violent cathere is fever or even vomiting. The discharge usually disappearsafter the orchitis is fully developed, and does not re-appear untinflammation has run its course; only in a few cases it does notappear after the subsidence of orchitis.The inflammation in its acute form does not often last beyondthe tenth day, sometimes the improvement commences on the fourthday. This, however, is not very rapid, since it sometimes takesweeks before the testicle resumes its former size ; very frequentan obstinate swelling of the testicles remains.Tr€€Ument. Most physicians prescribe in the first place Jfircurius sol. or vivus, especially if the orchitis had its origin iattack of gonorrhoea. We give the first trituration and continueit until the inflammation begins to abate. For orchitis arising fchronic urethritis, Clematis erecta is preferable. This medicineOrchitis. 15good service after Mercurios, even better than Pulsatilla which,however, has more decided symptoms referring to such a case.
