This recommendation has not been very extensivelyverified by experience ; nevertheless, if the attack is not too vlent, the tincture of Camphor had better be tried ; likewise, ifattack is preceded by unequivocal, premonitory symptoms, in theso-called cholera sicca. Hahnemann announces the following symptoms for which Camphor has been used in many cases with greatsuccess : Sudden and. rapid failing of strength, so that the persattacked cannot stand on his les^ ; alteration of the features, sunken eyes, bluish and icy-cold face, coolness of the rest of thbody ; hopeless despondency and anxiety as if he would be asphyxiated ; stupefaction, insensibility ; constant and unintelligibleing; burning in the stomach and fauces; crampy pains in thecalves ; painfulness of the pit of the stomach to contact ; thirsnausea, vomiting and diarrhoea have not yet set in. After takingCamphor, sweat soon breaks out as a sure sign that an improvement has commenced. As soon as this takes place, the remedymust be given less frequently and in smaller quantities, otherwisit might give rise to a troublesome cerebral hypersemia. For thetyphoid symptoms remaining after cholera, Camphop has likewisebeen given ; the exhibition of Camphor in this condition is, indejustified by the similarity of its pathogenesis to the symptomscharacterizing ursemia. The results, however, are not as yet verynumerous.Veratrum album is, without doubt, our most important remedy forcholera. If we wish to derive good effects from its use, we havebegin its administration in good season, and give it at once forpremonitory diarrhoea, especially if it is colorless. Veratrum isindicated still more, if the attack commences with vomiting anddiarrhoea ; this remedy often stays the further progress of the dease. Veratrum is less reliable if the symptoms of cholera are fudeveloped, although even then it surpasses all other remedies inefiiicacy. Of course, no remedy acts as favorably after the disease has made considerable headway; it is for this reason thatVeratrum should be given at as early a period as possible. If therestlessness of the patient has given way to a dull apathy andinsensibility ; if the skin is cold as marble and the pulse has bperfectly extinct, Veratrum is no longer indicated. In general, iproper to say that Veratrum album ceases to exert a favorable effafter the symptoms of reaction have become extinct.Cuprum is highly commended by some, and entirely rejected byother physicians.
