To those who object to such a cursoryreview of remedies as favoring a tendency to dogmatic systemization, we reply that by this means a knowledge of the remedies ismore easily obtained and an opportunity is afforded for mentionina number of others that had been omitted in the preceding list.In the milder form, the so-called simple bronchial catarrh, no remedy is required, since it most commonly passes off without anyBronchitis Acura. 179medication. Nevertheless, considering how easily this simple formmay prepare the way for the more dangerous forms of bronchitis,it is advisable to get it out of the way as soon as possible. Ifis present, Belladonna should first be given, if not, Nux vomica.[Aconite or Mercurius may be required. H.] In the case of childreBelladonna is principally suitable, to which Chamomilla may bepreferred under certain circumstances, especially if the childrenare very young. As soon as the cough is loose, Tartarus stibiatusPulsatilla may be required, less frequently Bryonia or IpecacuanhThese few remedies will almost always be found sufficient. In the inflammatory bronchitis of adults Belladonna will havealways to be given first; Mercurius if the above-described symptomatic indications prevail, more particularly if gastric derangements or diarrhoea are present. If under the operation of thesedrugs the fever has abated and the cough has become loose, StibiuBryonia^ Bromine^ Hepar sulphuriSy likewise Hyoscyamus or Coniummay be required. Bryonia deserves a preference if the troubleseems disposed to run a very protracted course, in which case Digtalis may have to be resorted to. It is not our object to indicatall the different cough-symptoms ; they can be found in any goodRepertory. If the inflammation spreads to the finer bronchialramifications, Bryonia will still be found most appropriate. Incases with typhoid symptoms and violent fever, Bhus tox, may haveto be given. If the dyspnoea increases to a high degree, Veratrumor Stibium^ or according to some, Ipecacuanfia may be indicated. For a supervening oedema of the lungs Phosphorus and Arsenicumare mostly required ; Tart, stibiatus will seldom be found indicaCarbo veget. may have to be fallen back upon. lodium^ Spongia andBromium may be indicated in capllary bronchitis, also Ammoniummuriat, and carbonicum^ [also Hepar s^dphuris, H.]In the bronchitis of old people we have in the first place to moderate the fever, for which Aconite or even Belladonna will but sedom be found suitable; Bryonia and Rhus tox. may do much better. If there is but little or no fever, Tart, stib, will be found mospropriate. If bronchitis is complicated with emphysema, the wholegroup of symptoms is best met by Arsenicum^ which is likewiseto be resorted to, if the fever should become complicated withdjspnoea. In the case of old people Phosphorus will not often befound suitable for the threatening terminal stages of bronchitishttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
