Cuprum accticam^ or stillter metallicumy acts very similarly to Cocculus. It is particularapplicable in typical paroxysms <strong>of</strong> the most violent kind, consist<strong>of</strong> unbearable abdominal spasms aft'ecting even the chest, causingloathinii:, gagging, and even vomiting, aff*ecting at the same tithe extremities with epileptiform spasms during which the patientutters a piercing cry." <strong>The</strong> following remedies likewise deserve commendation : Valerianay Platina^ Ignatia^ Belladonna^ Magncs arcticuSy 31ezereicm^Digitalis." If those remedies do not restore the memos, the physician willMenstrual Anomalies. 57then have to resort to the so-called antipsoric remedies, more pacularly Magnesia carbonica and muriatica^ Sulphur^ Sepia^ Zincum^Silicea, Lycopodium^ Graphites^ Addwn nitricum^ which may evenbe employed if the menstrual suppression causes no further troubl"We do not share Hartmann's opinion in this respect. Medicinesshould never be given except where actual morbid manifestationsseem to indicate their use ; the non-appearance <strong>of</strong> the menses somtimes is a means, on the part <strong>of</strong> Nature, to increase, or at leasteconomize the strength <strong>of</strong> the organism."In the treatment <strong>of</strong> delaying menses we have to follow thesame rules and maxims that have been laid down for menstrualsuppression. A suppression or delay <strong>of</strong> the menses <strong>of</strong>ten causesabdominal spasms and other difficulties for which Pulsatilla is aexcellent remedy. We likewise recommend Cicuta, Terebinthina^Zincum (especially when menstrual suppression is attended with apainful swelling <strong>of</strong> the breasts); Calcarea carbonica (likewise fomenstrual suppression, attended with marked symptoms <strong>of</strong> plethora) ; Graphites (when the menses delay too long, and the patiecomplains <strong>of</strong> hoarseness, headache, bloating <strong>of</strong> the feet, chillinebearing-down pains in the small <strong>of</strong> the back) ; Natrum muriaticum(if the menses delay too long and are very scanty); Strontiana (ithe menses delay too long, and afterwards, when appearing, looklike flesh- water and pass <strong>of</strong>f in the shape <strong>of</strong> coagula) ; Sarsapa(when the menses delay, are too scanty and acrid), etc."<strong>The</strong>se few indications may show that a good Repertory is thebest means <strong>of</strong> securing the selection <strong>of</strong> the proper remedy.
