A misapprehension of this kind is, moreover, preventeby the ansemic symptoms accompanying this condition. In such acase a rapid cure can only be effected by the artificial removalthe remnants of ovum whose spontaneous expulsion is sometimesdelayed to a remote period. A similar course takes place in therare cases of miscarriage of twins. After the expulsion of one fothe uterus firmly contracts round the other one, and, for a time, trouble seems at an end, until a second hemorrhage brings a way aother foetus. In a case of miscarriage the prognosis has to consider a varietyof circumstances : the possibility to save the life of the foetusdanger to which the life of the mother is exposed by the hemorrhage; the further consequences of the accident, and finally itsfluence upon the faculty of conceiving anew. As far as the preservation of the foetus is concerned, the prognosis is the more unfaable, the more copious the hemorrhage and the sooner it takes plaso that, if a profuse hemorrhage sets in during the first three mof pregnancy, the retention of the foetus can scarcely be hoped fAll morbid processes, especially inflammatory aftections, in otheorgans, and either causing or accompanying the miscarriage, diminish the chances of a successful issue. The indirect consequencesof a miscarriage sometimes tell on the whole future life of the ptient. One of these consequences is a high grade of anaemia, together with the abnormal conditions of the heart, which it oftenoccasions. Chronic uterine aftections are likewise very common;so are leucorrhoea, chronic metritis, displacements and changes ithe normal shape of the uterus. A number of nervous derangements sometimes remain after miscarriage. The influence of suchan accident upon a subsequent conception is often so trifling thamay be said to amount to nothing; many women conceive andabort by turns; as a rule the second miscarriage takes place abouMetrorrhagia. 73the same time as the former, aher women, having once miscarjried, never again go the full term of pregnancy ; at a certain pa hemorrhage again sets in. This is a very common occurrenceafter a miscarriage previous to the fourth month, and is almost arule in the case of a primipara. The general faculty of conceivindoes not seem to become modified by miscarriages. Before passing to the treatment of uterine hemorrhages generally,we will add a few more remarks concerning miscarriage. Miscarriage, both as regards the prophylactic and curative treatment ofeuch an accident, is a morbid process which sometimes defies themost consistent treatment of the so-called Rational School. On thcontrary, the homoeopathic treatment of miscarriage is generallycrowned with the most brilliant success. For this reason we havedeemed it our privilege to lay particular stress upon a morbid prcess whose importance must be self-evident. In our own practicewe can show the records of a number of cases of threatening miscarriage that were successfully prevented by internal treatment, where the full term of pregnancy was secured even after hemorrhage and severe uterine contractions had already set in in somehttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
