In a case of complicating pericarditis, the prognosis is most favorable, if the cing disease is not characterized by septic phenomena. In all othecases and forms the sequelte which are almost sure to occur, forbthe assurance of a favorable prognosis, and although Homoeopathyachieves much more satisfactory results than the Old School, yetcannot boast of infallible success. Cardiac inflammation occurring in connection with chronic dyscrasias, more especially tuberculosis, is almost certain to terminate fatally, yea, may be rega858 Diseases of the Heart.as the terminal and necessarily fatal result of a constitutionaldisease.Treatment* Although we can boldly assert that the homoeopathic treatment of cardiac inflammations has so far resulted mucmore favorably than the treatment of these diseases in accordancewith the principles of the Old School, yet we do not mean to aflithat we possess a large number of reliable indications for the usof our drugs, or even a number of such drugs as we might termcardiac remedies. We ought to accomplish a great deal more thanwe do ; yea, in the treatment of heart-affections we are much lessuccessful than in the treatment of diseases of the respiratory odigestive organs; nevertheless our successes are decidedly greatethan those of the Old School, were it for no other reason thanbecause we have abandoned so many therapeutic follies that eventhe modern physiological School is guilty of. We should be carrietoo far, if we would indulge in special statements bearing^ uponpoint, subsequently we shall find opportunities for offering variremarks on this subject. We must, however, even here, protestmost emphatically against heart-affections being treated by bloodletting either by physicians of the Old or New School. We wouldenter this protest even if we had no other reason than because evbleeding diminishes the functional power of the heart and theregularity of its action.Let us at the outset dwell a little more fully upon the reasonswhy the therapeutic chapter of heart-diseases in the domain ofHomoeopathy is as yet so incomplete and so ill-conditioned. In thnumerous homoeopathic publications bearing upon this subject, thereason is given that jOur provings are deficient in symptoms corrsponding with the signs elicited by a physical exploration of thecondition of the heart. This is undoubtedly a great defect whichcannot be remedied by re-provings were they conducted with everso much energy and devotion. Nobody will probably want topoison himself so thoroughly as to produce distinct cardiac murmurs. The only light we can obtain in this direction is by a carestudy of accidental cases of poisoning and by means of extensiveexperiments on animals. It is strange that in cases of poisoningcareful exploration of the heart before and after death has beenomitted.http://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
