This may likewise take place under the breasts, between the thighs and pudendum, and even at the anus.<strong>The</strong> pulse is mostly feeble, small and easily compressible, the sesitiveness to cold is much less, the menses are scanty, the sexuainstinct frigid or even extinct ; women are <strong>of</strong>ten sterile.As a rule, fat persons are indolent, apathetic ; they dread bodilexercise, even a little mental labor ; their muscles are deficientone, their senses are dull, their intellect is torpid, and theyinclined to sleep.<strong>The</strong>se phenomena are not, however, without exception ; a greatmany fat persons remain quick, <strong>of</strong> active mind and body; we haveknown a fat old gentleman who danced more vigorously than hisyoung associates and, not feeling tired, at the same time entertained his company with the most piquant anecdotes.Polysarcia is frequently attended with a disposition to parasiticgrowths, such as lipoma, cancerous depositions, or with a tendencto scurvy or dropsy."While teething, fat children are in danger from congestions <strong>of</strong> thead. It is very seldom that they live to an old age. Fat personsare <strong>of</strong>ten suddenly struck down with apoplexy and paralysis <strong>of</strong> theheart. Intercurrent diseases <strong>of</strong>ten assume a dangerous characteron account <strong>of</strong> the existing disturbances in the respiration and ciculation. Fat persons are frequently anaemic ; in such a case, escially after severe diseases, hydnemic conditions frequently devethemselves which it is difficult to distinguish from morbid fatneFat persons are frequently attacked with boils and carbuncles ; tlatter frequently run a dangerous course, causing vast destructioin the subcutaneous cellular tissue. Acute diseases are <strong>of</strong>ten succeeded by dropsy or marasmus.On this account a good deal <strong>of</strong> cautious reserve should be usedin establishing a prognosis in high grades <strong>of</strong> polysarcia, more escially if an atheromatous degeneration <strong>of</strong> the blood-vessels or afatty degeneration <strong>of</strong> the heart may be suspected.Treatment, An excessive deposition <strong>of</strong> fat is an anomaly inthe sphere <strong>of</strong> nutrition which, in our opinion, depends upon a weaness <strong>of</strong> the assimilative functions.
