Beer or wine, whether pure or diluted, can only be allowedif not counter-indicated by any <strong>of</strong> the above-mentioned circumstances. !K the appetite improves, more nourishing soups, light whitemeat, s<strong>of</strong>t-boiled eggs and a light farinaceous diet may be alloweas the digestion continues to improve, beef, venison and a strengening diet may be resorted to.Cooling things, such as: ice, lemonade, orangeade, raspberryjuice, soda-w&ter with wine or syrups, are only permitted by us,if the patients do not cough, are not troubled with diarrhoea orcardialgia, and are not inclined to abdominal pains.We give these dietetic rules in detail for the reason that we hav<strong>of</strong>ten seen practitioners urge upon ansemic patients the most substantial diet without regard to their digestive capacities. Beingunable, for want <strong>of</strong> appetite, to comply with the demands <strong>of</strong> theirphysicians, the poor patients, instead <strong>of</strong> gaining in health andstrength, continued to fail and were finally obliged to seek helpelsewhere.Exercise and rest are <strong>of</strong> great importance to the process <strong>of</strong> sanguification. It is just as important to regulate the amount <strong>of</strong> excise with reference to the existing amount <strong>of</strong> bodily strength, asis important to measure the amount <strong>of</strong> supply proportionally tothe strength <strong>of</strong> the digestive powers.As a rule, aneemic patients have pale and flabby muscles deprived<strong>of</strong> their normal energy, elasticity and powers <strong>of</strong> perseverence.
