To undertake to give special indications for every singleremedy would be a vain endeavor. In reality we have to be guidedby clinical experience, without being able to act in full accordthe law of similarity. We shall rarely be able to effect a curewith any single one of these remedies; most commonly frequentchanges will be found indispensable. For this reason we confine ourselves to giving the most necessary rules in the subjoineparagraphs.Syphilitic exanthems, with the exception of roseola, scarcely everequire any Mercury ; it is only if the improvement is tardy, ordoes not seem disposed to set in, and if we are certain that thepatient had not yet been poisoned with this drug, that a few doseof Mercury can sometimes be given while the treatment is mainlyconducted with some other leading remedy. Psoriasis yields mostpromptly to Svlphur^ Nitri acidum^ and, according to some, to Sarsaparilla and Lycopodium. The pustulous forms require the Iodideof Mercury^ Nitric acid^ the Hydriodate and Bichromate of Potash,Syphilitic pemphigus requires: Hepar sulphuris calc.^ Sxdphur^likewise Graphites. Tuberculous exanthems: Aurum Wjetallicum^Acidum nitricum^ and likewise Graphites ; Lycopodium may likewisebe appropiate. The ulcers on the mucous lining are of a mercurial character, ifthey are deeply-penetrating and affect the bones ; we have to avoMercury in treating them, and only resort to it, if we are satistthat no improvement can be achieved by any other means. In suchcases the red and white Precipitates are preferable to all othercurial preparations. For ulcers in the mouth Kali hydriod. may begiven alternately with Kali Uchrormicum ; for ozeena, if the boneare yet intact, Kali hydriod. may be prescribed, and if the bonesinvaded, Aurum muriaticum^ If the patient had previously takena good deal of Mercury, Addum nitricum may be given every nowand then for a few days at a time. Laryngitis requires above anyother remedy Hepar sulphuris^ moreover Iodine and the Bichromateoj Potash^ and according to Hartmann, Lycopodium. The tertiary phenomena require throughout a cautious, but continued use of the Iodide of Potassium. It is only for single formthat other remedies are required, Aurum^ for instance, for syphillupus, for caries of the facial bones, the suppurating tophi, and36562 Acute and Chronic Contagious Diseases.finally for sarcocele. Sulphur scarcely ever produces marked resuin tertiary syphilis, nor does Hepar sulphuris. On the other handthe Iodine-springs of Hall deserve high praise; the water fromthese springs is the mildest and at the same time most penetratinform in which Iodine can be administered. It remains for us now to make a few remarks concerning the dietof syphilitic patients. In this respect opinions differ even amonhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
