It is very likely that, in the case of littlchildren, the measles simply act as an exciting cause of scrof ulbut it is likewise among larger children that, after an attack ofmeasles, all sorts of phenomena make their appearance, 'which weare in the habit of designating as scrofulous and which go to shothat a morbid change has been impressed upon the whole activityof the organism.Tuberculosis likewise frequently breaks out after measles. Webelieve with Niemeyer that pulmonary phthisis after measles ismost commonly a chronic lobular pneumonia, having nothing incommon with tubercles, or else, a lobular pneumonia with suppuration. That tubercles not unfrequeutly do occur after measles, isMorbilli. 619shown to us by the circumstance that we have recently lost threechildren with acute hydrocephalus, in the neighborhood of Hannover, where the measles prevailed much more fiercely than in thecity. In every one of these three children the symptoms of acutehydrocephalus set in soon after the measles.Treatment* Measles are universally regarded as a typical disease, on which account the so-called rational physicians considerevery interference with medicines in a case of measles running thnormal course, as useless. From the stand-point of Homoeopathythis negative treatment on the part of our opponents, is liable tseveral important objections. In the first place the measles do nconstitute a fixed typical exanthem, for, as regards time, they vgreatly both with respect to the time it takes the eruption to coout, and to the duration of the stage of efflorescence. It is conceivable that this irregularity in the course of the exanthem maybe modified by medicines, and every homoeopathic physician willagree with us in the statement that, under homoeopathic treatmentthe measles very seldom run an irregular course. A second proposition the correctness of which has been demonstrated by an abundance of clinical experience, is that under homoeopathic treatmencomplications are rare occurrences and that sequelae are seen stiless frequently. All our most excellent observers, of whom wenumber a great many, agree with us in this statement. It is,therefore, our advice to treat every case of measles, even themildest, with a little medicine, although the action of the medicmay not always be distinctly perceived. The preliminary stage of measles, if there is otherwise nothingabnormal in the existing symptoms, requires either Aconite or Belhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
