If, after this, any efflorescences remain,they are treated according to the principles laid down above. Inmost cases the daily use <strong>of</strong> a tepid or shower-bath is sufficientcomplete the whole cure. ,We have never known this treatment which can be easily pursuedin a private family, to be followed by any <strong>of</strong> the terrible consecdiseases described in the books.Lest we should be accused <strong>of</strong> condemning what we know nothingabout, we will here state that we have tried every remedy recommended for the itch by homoeopathic practitioners, in the form <strong>of</strong>triturations, tinctures, attenuations, high and low potencies witthe least benefit. <strong>The</strong> acari would not die and the pustules keptinci easing in number. ACUTE AND CHRONIC CONTAGIOUSDISEASES.fl. Horbllll.Meades.Measles are not only a contagious, but a more or less universallyepidemic form <strong>of</strong> disease. In most cases they arise by a transfer<strong>of</strong> the contagium. This is contained in the catarrhal secretions,and is transmitted by contact, and still more frequently by the aIt is not very susceptible <strong>of</strong> being indirectly transmitted by theclothing ; this theory is probably adhered to with so much zeal fno other reason than because the doctrine that measles are contagious, is to be maintained at all hazards. <strong>The</strong> incubation<strong>of</strong> the transmitted contagium is eleven to twelve days, as anybodycan easily determine for himself in any outbreak <strong>of</strong> epidemicmeasles. <strong>The</strong> contagium is most active shortly before the appearan<strong>of</strong> the exanthem upon the skin. We have observed this to be therule in the epidemic that has now been raging among us for upward<strong>of</strong> a year.
