Graphites has furnished practical evidence <strong>of</strong> its curativepowers in this disease, whereas Fulsaiilla^ Lycopodium and Cocculare unreliable.As regards other points in the treatment <strong>of</strong> erysipelas, we desireto deprecate the common practice <strong>of</strong> resorting to an excess <strong>of</strong> warcovering which can at most only increase the intensity <strong>of</strong> the inflammatory process going on on the skin, as well as the dispositito relapses by superinducing an extreme sensitiveness <strong>of</strong> the skin<strong>The</strong>re is neither use nor reason in covering the inflamed skin witcotton wadding, nor is there any reason why the patients shouldnot remain in a uniform temperature, without any extra amount<strong>of</strong> covering.[It is well known to every physician and nurse that the distressing itching and burning <strong>of</strong> the inflamed skin is very much relieveby sprinkling a thin layer <strong>of</strong> fine flour or pulverized starch upoIn erysipelas <strong>of</strong> the extremities I have likewise resorted to a wewatery solution <strong>of</strong> the Sulphite <strong>of</strong> Soda as an external applicatio<strong>The</strong> effect has been to blanch the skin, alleviate the itching andburning, and, in conjunction with proper internal treatment, toshorten and moderate the course <strong>of</strong> the disease.Traumatic erysipelas <strong>of</strong> the face, in the case <strong>of</strong> habitual drunkards, is very apt to involve serious consequences, especially undallopathic treatment. If the inflammation invades the meningae,which it is inclined to do, death under this treatment is all butcertain.Some years ago, a case <strong>of</strong> traumatic erysipelas occurred in ourcity, which speedily terminated fatally under Old School treatmen<strong>The</strong> patient, a very stout man, had been on a bender for a day anda night, and was very much under the influence <strong>of</strong> liquor.
