Full text <strong>of</strong> "<strong>The</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong>rapeutics: According to the Principles <strong>of</strong> <strong>Homeopathy</strong>"Page 85 <strong>of</strong> 653pain in the vertex or occiput sometimes increasing to an intoleradegree <strong>of</strong> intensity ; at other times spasmodic muscular contractiare experienced in the oesophagus or larynx, sometimes taking theshape <strong>of</strong> globus hystericus, laryngismus or aphonia ; again, symptoms <strong>of</strong> dyspnoea with oppression <strong>of</strong> the chest and increased or unrhythmical palpitations <strong>of</strong> the heart set in; at other times thepatients complain <strong>of</strong> dyspepsia with accumulation <strong>of</strong> gas in thebowels, muscular weakness especially <strong>of</strong> the lower extremities,aggravated by the least exertion ; then again we notice symptoms<strong>of</strong> reflex-action in the sympathic range taking the form <strong>of</strong> spasmodic weeping or laughing ; or the spinal nerves are consensuallyaffected giving rise to convulsions. In many cases the sensoriumdisturbed in consequence <strong>of</strong> reflex-action, resulting in loud andcious delirium and even ecstatic conditions. At the same time themenses are either excessively pr<strong>of</strong>use or very much diminished.<strong>The</strong> prognosis <strong>of</strong> uterine neuralgia is generally favorable ; if depending upon structural lesions or displacements <strong>of</strong> the uterus, idoubtful. In obstinate cases <strong>of</strong> this kind the age <strong>of</strong> the patientdetermines the chances <strong>of</strong> a successful treatment ; if the criticaage is near at hand, a speedy cessation <strong>of</strong> their troubles may besafely promised all such patients ; experience has taught us thatthe cessation <strong>of</strong> menstruation the uterine pains disappear.Beside the remedies that we have recommended for the variousforms <strong>of</strong> menstrual irregularities, more especially for difficultpainful menstruation, we derive particular benefit in these neuraaffections <strong>of</strong> the uterus from :Aconitum, lower and middle potencies ;Gelseminum, generally if given in tolerably large doses ;Cimicifuga racemosa, likewise to be given in reasonably large dos92 Diseases <strong>of</strong> the Female Sexual Organs.Magnesia muriatica, lower and middle attenuations ;Hypericum perfoiiatum, lower attenuations.Aconite is generally indicated by a throbbing or peeking pain mthe uterus, sensation <strong>of</strong> fulness, heat, or a hard aching and seatpain in the uterus, nausea, headache, palpitation <strong>of</strong> the heart. IAconite does not relieve,Cimicifuga Tnz,j be given, more especially if the symptoms, forwhich this remedy has been recommended when occurring at thecritical age, are present, such as headache at the top <strong>of</strong> the heachilliness with flashes <strong>of</strong> heat, etc.Gelseminum, We are not aware that this medicine has been muchused in uterine neuralgic affections <strong>of</strong> the womb, except in so faas they are symptomatic <strong>of</strong> menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhoea, etor in so far as they occur in child-birth. <strong>The</strong> neuralgic pains, twhich both Aconite and Gelseminum are homoeopathic, are mostgenerally, though not necessarily, attended with signs <strong>of</strong> vasculaengorgement. <strong>The</strong>se two remedies are very <strong>of</strong>ten given in alternahttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
