In the next place Phosphorus takes the precedenceover every other medicine in cardiac inflammations when occurringas complications of such processes as lead us to infer a dissolutthe blood, like scurvy, puerperal fever, malignant exanthematouseases, typhus, etc. Finally we possess few remedies that embody ipathogeneses as plain a picture of nephritic and cardiac inflammation, as Phosphorus. And lastly Phosphorus is almost the onlyremedy of which we are sure that it occasions an infiltration ofmuscular tissue, and that on this account it becomes a highly important remedy in myocarditis. We are not in possession of anyclinical material to prove the correctness of these statiBments, with a view of substantiating them more fully, we will call attention to one circumstance. Phosphorus is employed by most homoeopaths in pneumonia as well as in other inflammatory and exanthematic diseases with the best result, whenever the inflammationassumes a nervous or rather a typhoid type. In a vast majority ofsuch cases a strict examination would undoubtedly show the presenof cardiac inflammation, for it is this that most frequently impaall at once a typhoid character to pathological processes that geerally run an ordinary course. It is our belief that Phosphorus hoften cured cardiac inflammations without the physician beingaware of it. Finally we have to point out a symptom which mostdecidedly indicates Phosphorus, we mean the dilatation whichdevelops itself during endocardial inflammation with such surprisrapidity. After all these remarks we do not deem it necessary tocriticise the indications offered by other physicians, for they aalmost all of them vague and indefinite.366 Diseases of the Heart.Colchicum aufumnale seemB to us to be improperly ranked amongcardiac remedies. We are in possession of a large number of bothrapid and slow cases of poisoning, but in no case does a postexamination show more than a quantity of bloody coagula in theright ventricle and the venae cavse; only in one case the endocardium was found ecchymosed, and there was a complete absence ofpericardial fluid. All the heart-symptoms arc of a secondary natuand are founded in the* excessive losses of fluids occasioned bychicum. Although Colchicum is highly praised for rheumatismof the heart ; this may be owing to the general curative powers imanifests in acute rheumatism, though not by any means in a verystriking or constant manner. According to Miiller, Colchicum ismore suitable as a remedy for pericarditis than for endocarditis.Hartmann's indications are utterly meaningless. One importantpoint has to be well kept in view in selecting Colchicum, it is tthat Colchicum causes an extraordinary increase in the secretionuric acid. It is precisely this circumstance which invests this redy with importance in heart-affections during an attack of gout.Bryonia alba is, next to Aconite, regarded by many homoeopathicpractitioners as the main remedy in pericarditis with seroeffusion. In this case the exhibition of the drug is evidently nohttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
