Itsuse has almost been confined to this range, as the use of Aconitehas been limited to inflammatory fever. But if our provings reveasuch a decided, and we might almost say such a specific relationdefinite organs, and more especially to the lungs, we must supposthat Arnica will prove an excellent remedy in pneumonia. In thefirst place, then, in pneumonia this remedy deserves a preferenceover any other in all cases where the disease is occasioned bymechanical injuries. We likewise recommend Arnica in caseswhere the pneumonic infiltration is associated with a marked tendency to hemorrhage. This coincidence generally occurs only inthe case of plethoric individuals with sensitive and irritable nefor which Arnica is said to be preeminently suitable, and in whomthe blood has undergone a peculiar alteration resembling the altetion in typhus, for which Arnica, if the results obtained by ourprovings can be accepted as reliable, is likewise a proper remedylong as the strength of the patient is not in a sinking conditionUnder these circumstances it competes with Belladonna, for Arnicahas likewise symptoms of marked cerebral congestion. For thisreason we commend Arnica in cases of pneumonia complicatedwith symptoms of meningitis. The first stage furnishes the mostcharacteristic indications for Arnica ; the second stage, and stithe third will scarcely ever afford a suitable sphere for a displthe curative virtues of this drug.China will never be found suitable in pneumonia without anydecided deviations ; it may often be indicated for some of thesedeviations, but more on account of its general effect upon theorganism, as on account of its specific action upon the lungs. Itrecommendation for bilious pneumonia is suggested by theoryrather than founded upon practical results; a slight degree oficterus is such an ordinary accompaniment of severe pneumoniasthat it cannot be regarded as an important complication ; and ifthe stagnation in the liver is more considerable when the right lis inflamed, the reason is simply because the circulation in theis obstructed by the impeded circulation in the lungs ; as soon athe pneumonic infiltration is removed, the hepatic circulation wiresume its normal course. To judge from the results obtained byPneumonia. 285means of our physiological provings, China is best suited where tcourse of pneumonia has been interfered with by sanguineous depletion, especially if hectic symptoms have set in with marked prostration of all reaction, or if, during the subsequent course of tdisease, the threatening pulmonary symptoms become associatedwith hypersemia of the liver, icterus, intestinal catarrh, violentress in the stomach. For this reason China may be ranked amongthe principal remedies for chronic pneumonia, but its action is olimited extent, and it is scarcely ever the only remedy sufficienhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
