"With this remedy alone we haradically cured frequently-recurring paroxysms of asthma of lessprotracted duration ; in inveterate cases all that we have been ato accomplish with this agent, has been to diminish in some casesalthough to a considerable extent, the intensity and frequency ofthe paroxysms. It is, therefore, with a good conscience that wecan recommend this medicine for further trials in asthma, providethe following circumstances are kept in view: The asthma is altogether a primary affection, it is the purely nervous form, a genuspasm of the bronchia; in such a case Digitaline will have the beeffect as long as no catarrh, emphysema or structural change of theart supervenes. Digitaline is, however, suitable even if thesecomplications exist, to which it is, indeed, preeminently adaptedmore especially to structural alterations of the right ventricle.high degree of sanguineous stasis in the veins of the head, especally a violent throbbing-pressing headache during and after theattack. Palpitations of the heart, especially if the attack is prceded by them. The asthma attacks irritable individuals withweak nerves, more particularly persons who have been guilty ofsexual excesses. We do not simply mean persons who had beenaddicted to self-abuse, for we have known a married man who contracted asthmatic attacks in consequence of excessive sexual intecourse, and who was decidedly benefitted by Digitaline. The influence of Digitaline over the male sexual organs is extraordinarand, in this case, we effected a truly radical cure, as is likewident from what we stated when speaking of the diseases of themale sexual organs. The influence of Digitaline over the femalesexual organs, especially in its bearing upon the nervous system,so difficult to define that we are as yet without any decided datregarding this matter. We always administer this remedy in thesecond or third trituration, giving never more than one grain offormer in the morning before breakfast, never at night, for thereason that sleep is generally disturbed by Digitaline. Nor is itnecessary to give a dose every day ; a dose every two or three dais sufficient. These precautions are important to avoid medicinalAsthma. 821effects and homoeopathic aggravations. UnlesB these precautionarymeasures are adopted, a remedy the great importance of which hasnot yet been sufficiently recognized, might easily fall into discNotwithstanding we believe that we have indicated the mostimportant remedies for asthma, yet if the list of these remedieswere to be exhausted, a great many other drugs might be addedto it. In mentioning the following additional remedies, we recallto the reader's attention the fact that most of the remedies emplfor asthma owe their recommendation to coexisting complications. The following remedies may be compared in particular cases: Sulphur^ Ferrum^ Argentum^ Brornum^ Sepia^ Calcarea carbonica^ Carbovegetabilis^ Causticum^ Lachesis^ Asafoetiduy Tartarus sHbiatus.Beside medicinal agents a few other means to reach the disease, are at our command. These are remedies that invigorate theconstitution generally and strengthen the tone of the nervoushttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
