This remendation was laughed at by some, and very coolly received byothers. In the May number of the North American Journal ofHomoeopathy, 1867, we find an article by Doctor Cramoity, translated from the Bulletin de la Soci^td Mddicale homoeopathique deFrance, by Doctor John Da vies of Chicago. In this article DoctorCramoity claims for the tincture of Aconite the rank of a Choleraspecific. He claims that from a therapeutic point of view thecharacteristic feature in cholera is the acceleration or the augmtation of the pulsations. "This," says the Doctor, "is not ahypothesis; for we can well remember in the cholera-cases weexamined when under our supervisiso in the Charity-hospital, in1854, and in our private Clinic in 1865, that the increase of thepulse more or less coincided with the degree of the disease, andwith the anguish or sufiering ; because the pulse frequently disapeared at this moment."At the commencement of the epidemic of 1865 we did not appreciate these symptoms, and had the misfortune to lose four casetwo women and two children ; to these we had given the remediesprescribed in the books for similar cases, which remedies were sato be the most efiicacious in such circumstances." This is therefore the reason for our presenting this theory oftreatment of cholera : our experience and observation establish tfact that the tincture of Aconite is the grand curative agent offlammatory diseases, and the regulator of the circulation." We have prescribed from fifteen to twenty drops of the tinctureof Aconite in six to eight ounces of distilled water, a teaspoonfthe same to be taken every ten, twenty or thirty minutes, accordito the intensity of the symptoms. Under its influence, the patienbegins to revive, the circulation of the blood returns to its norcondition ; the pulse rises, the internal heat ceases ; the thirsallayed, and the vomiting and diarrhoea arrested. At the same622 Epidemic and Endemic Infectious Diseases*time the bluish cast of countenance disappears, the cadaverousexpression changes to a natural one, the agitation of mind and bois replaced by a tranquil condition ; the dread of death is transformed to joy and hope, and the patient recovers in three to fourhours/*i?everal cases are mentioned where the patients, after having beefruitlessly treated with the usual cholera-remedies, such as : Caphor j Veratrurriy Arsenicum^ Cuprum^ and sinking very fast intolast stage of collapse, were* speedily and completely cured withdoses of the concentrated tincture of Aconite.Indeed, why should Aconite be overlooked as a great and specificremedy for cholera ? If there is any truth in the homoeopathiclaw, the effects of Aconite upon the normal human organism pointto it as a remedy for cholera. "We do not think that it supersedethe use of other valuable specifics for this terrible epidemic, nthey, on the other hand, supersede the use of Aconite. A few caseof poisoning will conclusively demonstrate the homoeopathicity ofAconite to Asiatic cholera. With high potencies we must, ofhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
