Under the useof Mercury it generally runs its course without suppuration, andeven, if pus has already been deposited, it is very often reabsorAcidum nitricum^ He par sulphuris calc,^ the red Precipitate andanimalis have likewise been recommended for buboes. ExceptHepary we cannot recommend a single one of these remedies assuperior to Mercurius sd.; Hepar can only prove useful after thesuppurative process has become fully established. Hepar is likewise indicated if, after the evacuation of the pus, or after a paretrograde metamorphosis, the gland still remains for some timehard and swollen. Sulphur may likewise have to be employed insuch circumstances, provided of course that no secondary phenom:ena have broken out.An indolent bubo which is almost always a sure sign of soconstitutional syphilis, never disappears rapidly; hence remediesought not to be changed too rapidly. In such a case the Iodide ofMermry is decidedly appropriate and sufficienti unless the affooSyphilis. 559tions of the skin and mucous membrane which may be beginningto make their appearance, should require another remedy.Gonorrhoea occasioned by chancre in the urethra, does not requireany special remedies; Merc. sdvMlis cures the gonorrhoea at thesame time as it heals the chancre.For condylomata, Thuya is not a sovereign remedy ; this fact isnow established beyond a doubt by abundant experience. It is anexcellent remedy for the acuminated, dry condylomata, but seemsto have very little, if any, eftect upon the soft condylomata, eiwhen used internally or externally. In our opinion, these soft codylomata do not always require any particular medication. If theybreak out. in company with a simple chancre, thoy generally disappear soon after the chanere is healed, and it is good policy, along as the condylomata last, to continue the Mercury in smallerand less frequent doses. If they accompany an indurated chancre,they remain for a long time even after the latter is cured, for treason that they constitute a sign of the more intense and moreuniversal infection. But even in such a case we do not advise anyspecial treatment on their account, because the other constitutiosymptoms are much more important. What is certain, however, isthat as long as condylomata are present that had come out aftera chancre, the syphilitic disease is not cured.
