Full text <strong>of</strong> "<strong>The</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong>rapeutics: According to the Principles <strong>of</strong> <strong>Homeopathy</strong>"Page 61 <strong>of</strong> 653cacuanha, Veratrum, lodium.For the toothache which so <strong>of</strong>ten accompanies and precedes themenses, and constitutes one <strong>of</strong> the most t.oublesome torments <strong>of</strong>women, if setting in previous to the menses : Aconitum, ChamomillBelladonna, Pulsatilla, and more particularly Arsenicum; if durinthe menses : Cole. Carb., Sepia, Phosphorus.For hemicrania which generally is present during a scanty,scarcely ever during a pr<strong>of</strong>use menstrual flow : Sepia, Nuz vomicaPulsatilla.Convulsive symptoms may <strong>of</strong> course vary, sometimes being purelylocal, at times general, then again tonic and at other times clonthey may even appear like epileptiform spasms so that they seemmuch more threatening than they really are. We may consider itas an established fact that the epileptiform spasms which occur athe time <strong>of</strong> the menses, never partake <strong>of</strong> the. dangerous nature <strong>of</strong>epilepsy. <strong>The</strong> most important remedies are : Ignatia amara, Cocculus, Cuprum, Platina, Secale comutum and Causticum.<strong>The</strong> mental disturbances belonging in this category, mostly partake <strong>of</strong> the character <strong>of</strong> exaltation, for which remedies like Platina, Veratrum album, Hyoscyamus, Belladonna, Stramonium, are indicated ; states <strong>of</strong> depression which occur much less frequently,require Lycopodium or Natrum muriaticum.Menstrual Anomalies. 63We will conclude this chapter by givinjg a general hint bearingupon the selection <strong>of</strong> a remedy for menstrual difficulties : our cattention should be directed to the conduct <strong>of</strong> the discharge,whether it appears at the right season or not, whether it is tooscanty or too pr<strong>of</strong>use, or whether it occurs normally. <strong>The</strong>se pointare essentially characteristic ; if the remedy does not meet themcorrespondence with the other phenomena may be ever so perfect,the remedy will not suit the requirements <strong>of</strong> the case,[Recently a number <strong>of</strong> drugs have been introduced into the Materia Medica <strong>of</strong> our School, some <strong>of</strong> which are being used withgreat success in various diseases, and more particularly in abnormenstruation.Aletris farinosa, or the star-grass, is recommended for the prelinary symptoms <strong>of</strong> miscarriage, such as dizziness, nausea, headachefulness in the region <strong>of</strong> the womb, colicky pains.Caulophytlum thalictroides, or the blue cohosh, has been extensivused by homoeopathic physicians for painful menstruation, with ascanty flow <strong>of</strong> blood, or when the appearance <strong>of</strong> the menses is preceded by severe spasmodic pains, for which Coccvlus is generallj*recommended. We give the Cohosh as soon as the pains commence,and resume the medicine a few days before the next period.
