It seems to us that theseindications are not only vague, but useless. <strong>The</strong> symptoms <strong>of</strong>Cannabis do not by any means point to an inflammatory process inthe lungs, but seem to result from the powerful action <strong>of</strong> Cannabiupon the heart. <strong>The</strong> remedy not having been employed to anyextent in pneumonia, there do not seem to exist sufficient reasonwhy its use in this disease should be recommended.Senega, according to its pathogenesis, is to some extent a remedyfor pneumonia, but its therapeutic value in this respect is verymuch diminished by the accompanying remark that the painfulsensations which Senega occasions in the thorax, are more particularly felt on the outside. In other respects Senega is particulaadapted to diseases <strong>of</strong> the respiratory mucous membrane, and,for this reason, to pneumonias complicated ' with bronchitis.Striking practical results by means <strong>of</strong> this drug have not yet beepublished.Hyoscyamus. Toxicological post-mortem appearances determinethe relation <strong>of</strong> this drug to pneumonia better than all its pathogenetic symptoms. <strong>The</strong> lungs exhibit marked hypersemia, but theyare filled with a black, fluid blood, and are infiltrated with seIf, in addition to this, we consider that Hyoscyamus has no intenpains and that the cough is more particularly dry and breaks outat night, we have a right to declare that an ordinary pneumoniadoes not come within the curative range <strong>of</strong> this agent. On theother hand we consider Hyoscyamus, even with reference to itscerebral symptoms, a valuable remedy in hypostatic pneumoniawhen supervening during the course <strong>of</strong> other chronic aiFections ;in pneumonia complicated with typhus ; in the pneumonia <strong>of</strong> oldpeople and when acute oedema <strong>of</strong> the lungs sets in. A violent delirium should always direct our attention to Hyoscyamus. As anintercurrent remedy, Hyoscyamus is <strong>of</strong>ten admirably useful in anocturnal, spasmodic, dry cough, such as frequently occurs in pnemonia during the prevalence <strong>of</strong> influenza.Arsenicum album. Howsoever much we may be disposed to regardArsenicum as one <strong>of</strong> the most prominent remedies for pu^m:affections, yet it does not appear to us that it occupies a promi19290 Diseases <strong>of</strong> the Lungs.rank among the remedies for pneumonia. Among the large cumber <strong>of</strong> toxicological post-mortem appearances, a decided fibrinousinfiltration <strong>of</strong> the pulmonary parenchyma has never been noticed,but always only a marked hypersemia and oedema.
