H.]If eczema is exclusively seated on and behind the ears, it is verobstinate; hence, the remedies must not be changed too often. Thebest remedies are: Mercurius^ lodium^ Kali bichromicum^ Baryta^Sulphur.Eczema of the hairy scalp, both when confined to the scalp andwhen the face is invaded by the exanthem, either runs its courserapidly, more especially in the ease of children, and generally ithe form of eczema impetiginoides; or else it assumes the form of496 Diseases of the Skin.eczema rubrnm, mo8t commonly in the case of adults, its course insuch a case being very chronic. For the former acute form the besremedies are: Heparsulph.^ Oleander^ Lycopodium^ Sulphur^ Staphysagria^ Mercurius (when a tendency to acute lymphadenitis prevailBaryta carbonica (when attended with a painless or, at any rate, acute inflammatory swelling of the lymphatic glands), JSorox, Clematis^ and, according to Hartmann's urgent recommendation: Dulcormara. For the obstinate eczema of adults we cannot recommend withsufficient emphasis Arsenicum and Graphites. With Arsenicum alonewe have several times removed an exceedingly humid and horridlyitching eczema in the space of six to eight weeks. Quite recentlywe have cured eczema of seventeen years' standing with Graphites^the patient being otherwise in a state of perfect health. She hadcontinue the remedy for over six months in the fourth to the sixttrituration, but even the excessively hypertrophied ears finallyresumed their normal shape. We do not mean to deny the possibleadaptation of Sulphur^ Lycopodium^ or even Pfiosphorus^ to thisdisease, but we are obliged to confess that we have never derivedthe least curative effect from either of these remedies.Children passing through the second period of dentition are oftenattacked with an eczema that is confined to the lower border of thairy scalp on the occiput, between both ears, and which, after bonce cured, is apt to break out again, and is always accompaniedby glandular swellings of considerable size. Hartmann recommendsDulcamara for this eruption ; we have used for it with perfect sucess : Hhus toxicod.j Calcarea carbonica j Oleum crotonis.Eczema on the scrotum occurs in very few cases as an acute impctiginoid eczema ; for such cases no medicine surpasses Croton ain efficacy, beside which we call attention to Caladium seguinum^Rhus toxicod, and Hepar sulphuris. In cases of chronic eczemagreat patience is required not only on the part of the physician, likewise on that of the patient; it is an exceedingly obstinate ation. The remedies to be employed in such cases are: Sulphur^ Arsenicum^ Lycopodium^ Nitri acidum^ also Graphites^ Petroleum^ Thuand AnihrakokalL A fact deserving special consideration is the vecommon co-existence of profuse hemorrhoids with this eruption;the scrotal integuments are likewise traveled by a number ofvaricose veins.Eczema between the thighs is generally cured by means of Jferhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
