Of course not the first, but the third triturationto be used. It is, moreover, certain that Mercurius vivus causesexanthematic phenomena more certainly and specifically than anyother mercurial preparation. For this reason we cannot recommendMercurius vivus with sufficient emphasis for experimental trials,BO much more since it likewise corresponds so perfectly with the660 Acute and Chronic Contagious Diseases.hypersen ia and ulceration of the mucous lining of the fauces. Fothe above-described uncomplicated affections of the skin and mucolining, the remedies which we have pointed out will be found sufficient ; however, a marked increase of the cutaneous eflSorescenmust not be regarded as a bad sign, for the more rapidly andnumerously they break out, the more speedily and thoroughly theywill be cured. The falling off of the hair is very often remediedHepar.Iritis cannot well be treated without Mercury; but it has to beused cautiously ; Corrosive SiMimate is the best mercurial prepartion for this disease and the most efficient remedy to avert allmediate danger. After the Sublimate, the remaining symptoms aremost effectually controlled by means of Clematis ; we have curedtwo cases of iritis with this drug alone, although the pupil wasalready considerably distorted. The next syphilitic forms which we shall describe, are a mixtureof syphilis and mercurial poisoning, or, which is likewise possibof syphilis and constitutional anomalies. The treatment of theseforms is therefore very different, sometimes exceedingly difficuland always very tedious. It is of great importance that, even inregard to the forms that we have just described, we should knowhow much Mercury had been used in treating them ; this knowledge is indispensable if we are called upon to treat mercuriolitic combinations. "We ascain call to mind a chief rule which isapplicable to all these cases, namely r that a curative result munot be expected too impatiently, and that we had better commencethe treatment with some indifferent substance, which will affordus time to decide upon the course of treatment that ought to bepursued. We would tender this advice to all those who fancy thata syphilitic patient cannot pass a day without suffering for thewant of medicine. Drenching the patient with quantities of medicine is sufficiently destructive in the hands of Old School practtioners, it is likewise hurtful in homoeopathic hands, ivere it obecause such a treatment obscures the curative results obtainedwith our remedies. And we again suggest with all proper emphasisthat the cutaneous efflorescences and most other syphilitic phenomena are curative endeavors that ought to be sustained ratherthan prematurely suppressed. The remedies which homoeopaths employ to combat the mixedforms of syphilis and m'^rcurial poisoning, and whose value has bascertained by clinical experience, are: Mercurius bijodcUus^ Kalhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
