Arnica may like^wise be required in active metrorrhagia ; it is particularly adapto post-partum hemorrhages, and is known as an efficient remedyfor excessive and painful after-pains. For particulars concerningDigitalis or rather Digitalin, we refer the reader to our Essay othis drug. There is no question that in metrorrhagias occasionedby blood-stasis depending upon heart^lisease, Digitalis is one offirst remedies. We are not as yet in possession of more special idications. The cure of a dangerous metrorrhagia which is reportedin that Essay, has not yet been interrupted by a similar accidentis now eight years. Sepia deserves special consideration in casesmiscarriage ; it is but seldom indicated in simple metrorrhagia.all events it is one of our most important remedies as a preventiof miscarriage. Whereas Sabina is especially adapted to active, plethoric and robust constitutions. Sepia responds to nervous irrbility associated with a quick circulation ; it is such conditionthe system that so often give the first impulse to miscarriage anare associated with obstruction in the abdominal circulation. Reirecommends Sepial in miscarriage? between the fifth and seventhmonths, if symptoms of abdominal plethora are present ; Kallenbacrelates several cases where Sepia had a good effect, the followinsymptoms being preseilt: rush of bldodf to the head and chest, sesation of weight in the abdomen, swelling of the hemorrhoidal vessels, irritable temper, disposition to syncope. While these symptome prevaily the movements of the fgetus grow^ weaker until theyfinally cease altogether and miscarriage threatens, most probablyprovoked by apoplexy of the foetus consequent upon uterine congestion. Experience has demonstrated the curative virtues of Sepiafr a preventive of miscarriage in so inany cases that it must beowing to indolence if our physicians do not rieport mofe calses o78 Diseases of the Female Sexual Organs.cure than they have done, with carefully and distinctly drawn ontlines. Lycopodium is likewise recommended as a preventive ofmiscarriage, but has not the same practical effect as Sepia. Lycopodium is more particularly suitable for feeble, worn-out individafflicted with bad digestion, chronic gastro-intestinal catarrh, nate fluor albus, symptoms of venous congestion in the extremitieand abdomen, varices on the legs and private parts, hemorrhoids,liver-complaint, splenetic engorgements. Such symptoms are notoften met with in young persons, on which account Lycopodium ispreeminently suitable for middle-aged women. It is of especialvalue in the metrorrhagias of the critical period, if the abovecribed symptoms indicate this drug. According to Hartmann,Kreosotum is suitable if a quantity of dark blood is discharged, succeeded for a few days by an acrid-swelling, bloody ichor causia gnawing-itching and smarting of the parts, after which the flowof blood recommences mingled with coagula. At the same timethe head feels very much distressed. Such symptoms suggest thepresence of malignant disorganizations of the uterus : however, they may likewise occur at the critical age or during confinementwithout any perceptible organic alterations.http://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
