It may be used during an attack of influenzand acute bronchial catarrh.These remedies have enabled us to control every attack of primarytitillating cough, no matter of what kind. (We remind the readerof the propriety of referring to the chapter on chronic bronchialcatarrh for the other remedies not mentioned in this extract fromKafka.)Even in the secondary form of this disease these remedies haveBronchitis Chronica. 233always been found sufficient in our hands. In the titillating couof tuberculous individuals, especially in the last stage of the dthe best tried remedies sometimes remain without effect ; in suchcase we resort to empirical remedies from motives of humanity,such as Cannabis indica 2, Atropin. sulph. 2, or Morphium aixt 1.(The Spirits of Turpentine on sugar and the Balsam of Copaivalikewise on sugar, or the alcoholic solution of the balsam have bfound useful in chronic titillating cough.)The selection of the proper remedy is often a very difficult mattespecially in the case of children who are unable to indicate thelocality of the titillation or to furnish a proper account of thesubjective sensations. The difficulty is likewise great in the caof hysteric females, because the consecutive, consensual and reflphenomena succeed each other with remarkable rapidity, and areexceedingly diversified. In such cases experience has taught us tpay exclusive attention to the objective phenomena which, to thishave to be investigated with great correctness and interpreted wian enlightened knowledge of their character and meaning. Afterwe have obtained an exact objective picture, we shall have nodifficulty in picking out the remedy best suited to the case.Having hit upon the remedy adapted to the present case by anarithmetical process as it were, we may rest assured that everyBubsequent paroxysm will yield to it. We exhibit the remedyduring the paroxysm moat commonly in solution, mixing four, sixor eight drops in half a pint of water and giving one or two dessspoonfuls every quarter or half an hoar, or every hour. Triturations like those of Mercuriu^ sol. or Hepar sulph. are likewise oevery half hour or hour in about grain-doses. After the terminati" of the. paroxysm we continue the same remedy every two or threeAours until the cough has entirely ceased. In order to prevent thJ^turu of the cough, we give two doses of the same drug every day^^ Some time longer.
