This last circustance is of course flatly deified by the partisans of this checkor aborting method. Astringent injections after the inflammatorystAge is passed, frequently lead to good results, nor are their sdary effects attended with the danger involved in the formermethod; nevertheless they are not absolutely reliable, and it ofthappens that the gonorrhoea breaks out again after a suppressionof several days. Large quantities of Copaiva and Cubebs sometimes suppress the discharge for a few days, but it frequently returns again with a renewed fierceness and changes to a mostobstinate gleet. In addition to these disappointments the gastrointestinal canal is sometimes very much weakened by these drugs. Moreover it is our conviction that these two drugs are the mostfrequent cause of gonorrhoeal orchitis and of the peculiar gonorrhoeal rheumatism, neither of whicjh conditions has ever occurredto us under a stdct homoeopathic treatment.Upon the whole, we are willing to admit that these severe methods of treatment are now and then crowned with brilliant successbut on the other hand we believe that they do not counterbalance12 Diseases of the Male Sexual Organs.the dangers incident to this treatment ; we believe that a gonorrhcea treated in this manner, without being cured, becomes exceedingly inveterate. Hence we prefer, under all circumstances, theslower but safer homoeopathic treatment, were it for no betterreason than that it never does any positive harm. It might beworth while to ascertain how often a strict homoeopathic treatmenof gonorrhoea has resulted in orchitis, strictures, cystitis, etccases will be few indeed. Another advantage of the homoeopathictreatment of gonorrhoea, which is readily perceived and appreciatby the patients, is the circumstance that they need not impose upthemselves distressing inconveniences. It is well, however, thatthe attention of the patient should be directed at the very commencement of the treatment to the difference between the allopathic and the homoeopathic methods. The patient's mode of living constitutes an important part in thetreatment of gonorrhoea. The views of physiciians differ greatlythis respect. Some doctors torment their patients half to death btheir pedantic dogmatism in regulating the diet and general modeof living. Abundant experience has satisfied us that so muchpedantic care is uncalled-for. The patient may take exercise, butshould avoid all severe exertions and remain as much as possiblea recumbent posture. Every patient should wear from the start agood suspensory which we do not, however, regard as a preventiveagainst orchitis. The usual diet may be pursued with the followinexceptions : The patient must abstain from fat food, eat meat moderately, avoid spices, spirits, wine and beer, and likewise coffeing the first period of the treatment ; during the subsequent trehttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
