Full text <strong>of</strong> "<strong>The</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong>rapeutics: According to the Principles <strong>of</strong> Homeopath...Page 580 <strong>of</strong> 653<strong>The</strong> appetite is frequently impaired, or the patient experiences adesire for unconmion things, such as charcoal, chalk, lime, roastDeficiency or rather Paleness <strong>of</strong> the Blood. 691c<strong>of</strong>fee, acids, bitter substances, etc. ; the digestion is weak, tappetite is speedily satisfied, and, after eating, such patientsfrequently attacked with oppression <strong>of</strong> the stomach or flatulence.<strong>The</strong> thirst is <strong>of</strong>ten very much increased, sometimes quite normal,the bowels are generally torpid, the urine is pale, watery, generquite copious and has an alkaline reaction. In the case <strong>of</strong> malepatients, the sexual functions remain unaffected; in the case <strong>of</strong>women, however, the menses <strong>of</strong>ten become irregular, or very scantyor they are entirely suspended. Pr<strong>of</strong>use menses are <strong>of</strong> much lessfrequent occurrence ; they exert a very prejudicial influence upothe general organism. Ansemic women are very frequently attackedwith leucorrhoea and sterility. <strong>The</strong> secretion <strong>of</strong> milk is impairedthe milk is watery, thin, not nourishing, hence anaemic women areunfit for the business <strong>of</strong> nursing and the children who are fed onsuch milk, generally become ansemic.Most ansemic persons feel better in a state <strong>of</strong> rest and in a horizontal posture, whereas they soon feel tired when standing, walking, or when performing bodily labor. Hence they generally feellazy, are not disposed to work, and soon have to desist from theilabor. We are acquainted with patients who become exhaustedeven after doing the lightest kind <strong>of</strong> work, such as knitting,crocheting, embroidering, etc., and even become shortbreathed,experience an oppression on the chest, palpitation <strong>of</strong> the heart,sometimes even pains in the muscles <strong>of</strong> the arms, chest and back,or after standing or walking for some time, pains in the muscles<strong>of</strong> the calves or thighs.As a general rule, anaemic persons feel most uncomfortable in themorning-hours ; their sleep is not refreshing or strengthening ;feeling <strong>of</strong> lassitude does not leave them, on which account theyremain sad and depressed in spirits until, in the course <strong>of</strong> the dthey become artificially stimulated by the use <strong>of</strong> c<strong>of</strong>fee, tea, wibeer, broth, etc. This circumstance is very important in a diagnostic point <strong>of</strong> view ; whereas anaemic persons look pale and feellanguid while their stomachs are empty, and at such times eitheryawn or complain <strong>of</strong> headache and are generally morose: theycommonly feel much bettor after using the above-mentioned stimulants or immediately after eating, their complexion looks muchbetter, tbey are more active and cheerful. Very seldom anaemicindividuals experience an oppression at the stomach, cardialgia orush <strong>of</strong> blood to the head after eating or drinking, or feel otheruncomfortable and languid.692 Anaemia, Oligaemia.Diarrhoea, hemorrhages <strong>of</strong> every kind, even if very slight, nocturnal emissions, sexaal intercourse and nursing aggravate thesymptoms <strong>of</strong> aneemia.
