It is not suposed to exert a direct specific action upon these organs, but tothe disorders alluded to by removing the aftections upon whichMenstrual Anomalies. 65tlie disturbances of the sexual organs are depending. These affecare principally piles and constipation. The curative results of Csonia have been mostly obtained by means of comparatively large dGalseminum sempervifeus, yellow jessamine* Dr. Hughes writes, inthe British Journal of Homoeopathy: "I continue to derive themost brilliant results from this drug in dysmenofrrhoea and afterpains, when these are spasmodic and not inflammatory. Its powerover after-pains is so great that the lying-in chamber is well nifreed from one of its greatest bugbears. But it is antipiathic rathan homoeopathic to these conditions, and requires to be given ifull doses, from three to ten drops of the first decimal dilutionDr. Hughes would imply that large doses of Gelseminum are antipathic, and small doses are homoeopathic to spasmodic pains. Ifthis is the Doctor's meaning, his doctrine is incorrect. We havethe testimony of Dr. Douglas of Milwaukie, one of the provers ofGelseminum, that he experienced severe spasmodic pains "a suceessiofn of acute, sudden, darting pains, evidently running alongsingle nerve-branches in almost every part of the body and limbs, sometimes so sudden and acute as to make me start. At one timea quick succession of these acute sudden pains coursed down theoutside and front of the tibia for over half an hour, leaving a lof considerable tenderness marking its track. These pains, whichseemed clearly neuralgic, gave me the palpable indication for itsemployment in this disease. And it has certainly been successful. But while it has fully cured some distressing cases of neuralgia, which Aconite had been fully tried without benefit, there haveoccurred some other cases in which it has failed and Aconitehas succeeded. What is the explanation of this? If we sup'pose that in some cases of this disease there exists a real inflamatory state of the nerve, and in others a mere excess of sen*sitiveness, the explanation is easy ; Aconite cures the first, Geseminum the last." But then Dr. Douglas writes further : "A majority of all cases of neuralgia will be promptly relieved by Gelminum, but it sometimes requires to be given in pretty large doserepeated every half hour till the pain is relieved."Hamamelis virginina has been used with excellent effect in dysmenorrhoea and vicarious menstruation* In Hale's ISew Remedies afew cases are reported where cures were effected with the middlepotencies of the remedy.Hekmias diolca, false Unicom, of which we prepare the resinoid Hekntin^ which is very frequently used in practice, has been prescr566 Diseases of the Female Sexual Organs.http://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
