It is most frequently the abdominal organs that suiffirst the liver, next the stomach and kidneys ; piles not unfrequmake their appearance. The principal remedies for these derangements are : Sepia, Belladonna, Lycopodium, Nux vomica and SulphurThe heart, lungs op head are less frequently aftected by these cogestions, for which Hartmann recommends Crocua. As a rule theremedies for these congestions are the same as those recommendedfor hypereemia of the Iffiain, [more especially Aconite, Veratrumand Cirnidfaga raceinosa. For the sudden flashes of heat to whichsuch patients are liable, we recommend beside the remedies that ausually resorted to, such ^as Sepia, Sanguinaria, etc., Veratrum88 Diseases of the Female Sexual Organs.and Cimidfuga. For congestions of the heart, Aconite^ Digitalis aCactus may be required. H.]Prolapsus uteris which is always more or less occasioned by a relaxation of the vaginal mucous lining, can scarcely ever be curedby the exclusive use of internal remedies, and it would be wrongexpect such a result without at fhe same time resorting, to mechaical means. Hartmann recommends as adapted to such conditions :Arnica^ Mercurius^ Nux vomica^ tSepia, Belladonna^ Aurum andCalcarea carbonica; we confess, however, that we have never seenthe least curative effect from any of these remedies. [CimicifiigJSamamelis and Helonias are employed with more or less success, most generally in connection with pessaries and supporters. H.]Sterility depends upon the most diversified conditions of the system. Most commonly it is due to a disharmonious degree of excitability in the man and woman. Generally this want of harmonyis owing to the dissolute life which the man may have led beforehis marriage, and by which he may have reduced his sexual powersbelow the point of normal action. It may likewise be the woman'sfault, if she had indulged in sell-abuse. In such cases medicinesare of very little use, whereas proper hygienic rules may accompla great deal of good. Above all things sexual intercourse shouldbe indulged in very moderately. If the woman is really suftering, her troubles will have to be met by appropriate medicinal treatmeHartmann hts the following brief advice : If the sterility is cauby an excess of sexual passion on the part of the woman, Platinaand Phosphorus are the most promising remedies. If the mensesare suppressed, we give Conium maculatum ; if they are too profuse, Mercurius^ and at the same time too early : Natrum muriaiicum J Calcarea carbonica^ Acidum sulphuricum^ Sulphur; if themenses delay : Graphites arid Consticum ; if they are too scantyAmmonium carbonicum. If husband and wife meet normally, andno conception takes place, Hartmann advises them to take frequentdoses of Sabina or Cannabis. So far as we know, no particular results have been obtained by this treatment, and we doubt very mucwhether the remedies which Hartmann advises can do much good.On the contrary, in our opinion the remedies for menstrual irregularities or for the other morbid conditions of the sexual organs,to be resorted to in treating sterility. This defect can only bemoved, if both husband and wife endeavor to avoid with scrupulouscare every thing that might have a tendency to prevent conceptionP'uritus vidvoij itching of the pudendum, is symptomatic of manyhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
