Chlorosis occurs chiefly between the ages othirteen and twenty-four years, seldom at a later period ; if itit can be traced to secondary disturbances, such as : confinement<strong>of</strong> young women coming rapidly one after another, more especiallyif the women nurse their own children. Hence the real cause <strong>of</strong>chlorosis has to be traced to the sexual sphere ; but it is easilceived that unconquerable obstacles stand in the way <strong>of</strong> a thorouginvestigation. <strong>The</strong> disease sometimes breaks out previous to thefirst appearance <strong>of</strong> the menses, more frequently after several menstrual periods ; as an entirely primary disease it only breaks ouamong unmarried women. It appears to be hereditary ; females <strong>of</strong>a pale complexion are more liable to be attacked with it ; no constitution is exempt from the disease, although delicate individuawith irritable nerves are more susceptible to it.
