It is our opinion that the onlymethod is the practical experiment, by which we mean that ourmedicines ought to be applied in accordance with our existing, vague, unreliable and insuflSlcient indications, and that the resshould afterwards be registered in accordance with the most carefphysical diagnosis. This has not yet been done, and this is thereason why the homoeopathic treatment of cardiac affections isBO much more defective than that of any other class of diseases,A pneumonia and even a pleuritis can be recognized with tolerablecertainty without percussion or auscultation, but the special forof an aftection of the heart, and sometimes the existence itselfan affection of the heart cannot be determined without resortinga physical exploration of the chest. Now we ask, in how manyreports of heart-diseases contained in our literature have the resites of a physical diagnosis been complied with? And how far,in the presence of such glaring defects, do these reports deservebe credited? In passing these remarks we do not mean to cast aslur upon the labors of our homoeopathic veterans who could notpossibly be acquainted with our present means of diagnosis ; wedeem it so much more necessary to point out these defects in ordeto stimulate the efforts of our rising physicians to acquire thisindispensable and highly useful knowledge. It is from these points of view that we request the reader to consider the following statements, and to excuse the defects he maydiscover in them. One or the other remedy may perhaps have beenomitted, but we have stated more than once that we consider anenumeration of too many remedies embarrassing rather than useful to the practitioner. The following are the main remedies incardiac inflammations:Aconitum. We have already shown in several paragraphs of thiswork that great abuse is made of Aconite by being given contraryto the homoeopathic law in inflammations of various organs andother febrile affections. This admirable remedy deserves to bepointed out so much more emphatically in cases where it is trulyhomoeopathic, and where its curative virtues have been so often a80 brilliantly verified. There is no doubt that the lungs and theheart are the main organs upon which Aconite exerts its chiefinfluence ; whatever objections may otherwise be raised againsttheir method of proving, Schroff and Van Praag have earned ourthanks for having shed more light on the relations which AconiteIiolds to both the lungs and the heart. We here only relate the360 Diseases of the Heart.symptoms pointing to cardiac inflammation, as developed by adeeply-penetrating and protracted poisoning. At first the beataof the heart become more rapid and more violent, and this increaslasts so much longer the less excessive the quantity in which thehttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
