In the malignant formsof pericarditis supervening during the presence of pyaemia or othseptic forms of disease, Arsenicum^ and above all. Phosphorus, wiprove the most important remedies. Pericarditis, complicated withacute exanthemata, requires principally: Aconite in the case ofmeasles ; Rhv^ toxicodendron in scarlatina and measles ; Mercuriuand Tartarus stibiatus in small-pox ; AmTnojiium carbonicum in sclatina; it is questionable, however, whether the cardiac inflammation had not rather be treated first without reference to theexanthem. It is only in rare cases that primary endocarditis will be of anature to require Aconite exclusively. The chief-indication herethe quality of the pulse ; as long as the pulse is hard and fall, nite is undoubtedly suitable. We have shown above that Aconitemay be indicated during the whole course of the disease. AfterAconite, Spigelia may be required, Digitalis less frequently; Nitand Veratrum album may likewise have to be given. In very acutecases Lachesis, Veratrum album, or Arsenicum, may often be requirfrom the first. If the brain is greatly disturbed : Veratrum albuCannabis, Opium,In rheumatic endocarditis with complications: Aconitum, Col"chicum, Spigelia, less frequently Digitalis; if co-existing "withpneumonia or pleuritis : Phosphorus, Veratrum album, Nitrum^ alsoBryonia; with typhus: Phosphorus, also Rhus tozicod, and Arsenicum, Opium and Cannabis; with nephritis: Phosphorus, NitrwnyArsenicum, Cdchicum, also Cantharides; when acute exanthemaare present, the same treatment as for pericarditis : •' In myocarditis we would depend upon Phosphorus, ArsenicumCarditis. 871and Digitalis; we likewise call attention to the importance ofPlumbum in this disease.[Of Kalmia latifolia which has likewise been recommended as acardiac remedy, we have no reliable clinical reports worth mentioning.Cactus grandiflor'us is the last important cardiac remedy whichhas been introduced to the profession by Doctor Rubini of Naples,It seems to be particularly adapted to the organic defects consequent upon acute cardiac inflammations, especially rheumaticendocarditis. Hypertrophies and valvular deficiencies seem to commore particularly within its curative range. In the cases where whave tried it, we have seen better effects from it in the tincturin the attenuations. The case of hypertrophy of the right ventricreported in the May number 1866 of the British Homoeopathic Review, presents a very fair illustration of the curative effects ohttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
