Nevertheless there occur many cases of cancer the trueuature of which remains for a long time undetermined and isclearly revealed only after the disease has run a long course.Carcinoma of the mammse is generally considered a surgicaldisease; it is supposed by most authors that internal treatmentcannot reach it. The disease, at least in its incipiency, is conspurely local, and an operation the only cure. It is as yet difficto show what method of treatment is the most successful in thisdisease, but physicians seem to incline more and more to the belithat the extirpation with the knife simply leads to the transferthe disease to more vital organs, without affecting its general dtion. Homceopathic physicians have, for a long time past, rejecteevery extirpation of cancer as injurious or at least unproductivegood results.Unfortunately we are unable to affirm that Homoeopathy isacquainted with a safe method of healing cancer ; at present weare not acquainted with a single undeniable cure of this disease."We are entitled, however, to claim palliative results for our trment ; it never increases the trouble, and delays a fatal terminawere it from no other cause than because it does not rob the patiof her strength.Hartmann mentions a number of remedies for cancer, with amultitude of indications which we do not repeat here because theyhave seemed to us irrelevant. The remedies whicii seem to haveexerted some influence over this disease, are: Belladonna^ Arsenicum^ Carbo animalis and vegetabilis. Clematis erecta^ Conium macuturn^ SepiUy perhaps also Sulphur., Kreosotum, Aurxim muriaticumand Baryta carbonica. Belladonna only alleviates the pains if theare lancing or burning pains, attended mith sub-inflammatorysymptoms, and as long as the carcinoma has not become an opensore. Arsenicum likewise is an excellent palliative against theburning pains of cancerous ulcers, especially when worse at night104 Diseases of the Female Sexual Organs.this remedy likewise diminishes or even suspends for a time thesuppuration and ichorous decomposition. Conium and Clematis, and likewise Baryta can only be used if the tumor has not yetbegun to discharge; the other above-mentioned remedies are principally of use in cases of open cancer. For further symptomatic particulars we refer to Hahnemann'sMateria Medica Pura.Other medicines have been mentioned which, however, do notseem to refer very particularly to carcinoma, such as: NitridciduPulsatilla J Bryonia^ Phosphorus ; Lycopodium, Silicea, Natrum muriaticum would seem more appropriate. Most observers agree that the higher attenuations, if given innot too frequently repeated doses, deserve the preference over thhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
