A characteristic indication for Hepar idry, spasmodic, barking cough with a wheez?ng sound over thewhole thorax without any real mucous rales ; it is a steady coughonly at intervals increasing to frightful paroxysms with danger osuffocation ; it is excited by e\evy attempt to draw a long breatand only results in the expectoration of a yellowish, tenacious mcus. Hence Hepar is an important remedy in croupous bronchitis, likewise in the less acute or even chronic form of the disease ;capillary bronchitis its applicability is questionable. [We do noagree with Bsehr in this statement ; we have used Hepar in thisform of bronchitis with striking benefit, giving the third to thesixth attenuation. H.]iodiunfi may be ranged side by side with Spongia and Hepar. However it is not by any means ahead of these agents, since itaffects the larynx and trachea much more energetically than the12178 Diseases of the Lungs.bronchia. It has no particular symptoms that distinguish it fromother remedies.Bromine has not been sufficiently proved to secure it a prominentplace among the remedies for bronchitis. The recommendations ofthis drug by homoeopathic physicians are too vague and indefiniteto deserve any further notice at our hands. Its practical resultsare exceedingly meagre and indecisive.Baryta oarbonica is not much used in bronchitis, although it deserves some consideration in at least one form of this disease. In such cases we have seen this remedy act with decidedbenefit. In bronchitis with threatening symptoms we should neverdepend upon Baryta carbonica,Arsenicum album is scarcely ever indicated in simple bronchitis ;for particulars we refer the reader to the chapters on influenzachronic bronchial catarrh.Phosphorus is not, in our estimation, a remedy for bronchitis unless the disease is complicated with other afi[ections. Hahneinanhimself pronounces Phosphorus not only not suitable, but evenhurtful in this disease ; this statement certainly rests upon praobservations, although it does not seem confirmed by the physiological data of the Materia Medica. In his treatise on PhosphorusSorge does not allude to this agent as a remedy for bronchial diseases. In our further considerations of pulmonary affisctions weshall frequently have occasion to revert to Phosphorus. On thisoccasion we will merely state that if oedema of the lungs or pneumonia should supervene during Che course of bronchitis, Phosphoruhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
