We are not acquainted with a single case ofprurigo that has been cured by homoeopathic treatment; however,we do not mean to assert that such a cure is impossible, or thathas not already been achieved. Ilebra is the first who has givenreliable and accurately defined diagnosis of prurigo. Physicianshaving formerly been entirely unacquainted with the genuinecharacteristics of this disease, it was very easily confounded. wscabies. Owing to the great rarity of the disease, it will be a ltime before we have a comparatively sufficient number of curesrecorded in our published writings. Among the remedies for thisdisease we have to rely solely upon such antipsorics as will meetdyscrasic and exceedingly chronic character of the disease; wename: Sulphur^ Sepia^ Arsenicum^ Calcarea carbonica^ Fluwhum. Afew other remedies may be required for acute exacerbations andcomplications which arise in the course of prurigo more frequentlthan in that of any other exanthem. The vapor-bath and frictionswith brown soap should never be omitted ; by such means the skinis properly cared for, and the relief to the patient is speedy anlasts a pretty long time.In conclusion we request every practitioner who has treatedprurigo with success, to publish his cases, not omitting a specif478 Diseases of the Skin.well as differential diagnosis of each case. We have already showin previous chapters that a careful examination of prurigo is calculated to annihilate the whole theory of psora and the itchtases, and it is time that this stain should be removed from theescutcheon of Homoeopathy.11. If the sebum secreted by the follicle is too thick, itnaturally reaches the surface with more difficulty, solidifies nethe external opening, and closes the follicle by means of a plugwhich has generally a black color. These blackish points are callcomedones, or acne punctata. In certain circumstances the diseasemay not progress any further; on some portions of the skin, as foinstance on the nose, this condition becomes habitual. Under othecircumstances that will be stated below, the glands thus closed sa disposition to become inflamed. That this ip not alone owing tothe pressure of the sebum upon the follicular walls, is shown bycircumstance that in persons of a more advanced age the comedonesscarcely ever inflame, or that they enlarge to the size of smallbursse without any symptom of inflammation whatsoever. The inflamed follicle either changes to a small pustule, discharges andsometimes forms small scurfs, or else the inflammation does notterminate in suppuration, the follicle retains for a time the shahttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
