Ipecac, is liksuitable for a dry, spasmodic cough, but certainly not accordingits physiological symptoms. The remedy is principally adapted tothe bronchial catarrh of children; adults do not seem to be favorably affected by it, and its good effect upon old people is verytionable. The above stated symptoms show that the fine curativevirtues of Ipecac, do not reside in its emetic properties, but inspecific adaptation to the bronchial disease. Allopathic physiciawould soon become convinced of this fact, if they would give theremedy in doses small enough not to cause nausea. It cannot bedenied, however, that the act of vomiting in suffocative catarrhmay exert an expectorant and alleviating influence, and we couldnot find fault with a homoeopath who, from this stand-point, wereto prescribe massive doses of this drug. At any rate we knowfrom experience that a smaller dose than a grain of the secondtrituration does not produce a reliable effect.Nux vomica is recommended for bronchitis, but we must confessthat we have never witnessed any curative results from this drugin the acute form of bronchitis, however much we may value it inthe lessw: degree of laryngotracheitis. We shall scarcely ever diBronchitis Acuta. 177cover a real syinptomatic similarity between Nux and bronchitis;if existing, it will only be found to apply to the more triflingof the disease.Chamomiila may be found suitable for the bronchitis of children, not so mnch of adults ; it is indicated if the larger bronchia arflamed, with an urging to cough, the cough being excited or aggravated, by the least attempt to use one's voice. It is particularlviolent at night, and accompanied by wheezing, and by coarse raleBad cases are not adapted to this medicine.Pulsatilla is only indicated in the lighter forms of inflammationof the large bronchia, if there is no fever or the fever is alreapassed. We shall revert to this remedy again under chronic bronchial catarrh, to which the reader is referred.Rhus toxicodendron seems to us very seldom indicated in simplebronchitis, but may prove of importance in the epidemic forms ofthis disease. On this account we refer the reader to the treatmenof influenza. "We have to recommend this remedy, however, in thefirst stage of the malignant forms of the bronchitis of old peoplAt an early stage already the symptoms resemble those of typhus ;the danger is more particularly determined by the character of thfever which deprives the already exhausted frame of all power ofreaction. Under these circumstances Rhus will be found eminentlyhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
