At the same time the region of the stomachis very painful, exceedingly sensitive to contact, the abdomen ishot and distended, the skin much warmer than usual. If we donot succeed in speedily arresting the attack, the patients emaciavery rapidly, the features collapse, the skin gradually cools offcrying of the patients gradually changes to a continual moaning, and they lapse into sopor or convulsions. The hj'^droceijhaloid as well as the typhoid form never set inwithout precursory symptoms. Most commonly they consist incontinual diarrhoea, frequent eructations, occasional sour vomitiwith sleeplessness, peevish or very irritable mood, pallor and expression of suffering of the countenance, loss of appetite. Thoy hurriedly grasp the tumbler, hold on to it with both hands and are unwilling to relinquish thehold. Very often they start from their slumber with a cry, and, after looking about wildly, they relapse into their sopor. At thesame time the children become rapidly emaciated, especially aboutthe neck ; the pulse becomes smaller and more hurried, the alvinoevacuations acquire a foul odor, become watery, are destitute offsecal matter and distinguished from the urine only by their cadaverous smell ; the respiration becomes short and labored, and isoften accompanied by a tormenting cough. Finally there is complete loss of consciousness and sensibility, the eyeballs are disspasms or convulsions set in, with symptoms of the most profoundexhaustion. This hydrocephaloid condition is distinguished from true hydrocephalus by the absence of the pathognomonic signs of the latter,http://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
