Acute or chronic gastric, intestinor bronchial catarrhs have to be treated in the manner indicatedin their respective chapters ; they favor more than anything elsethe diminution of the red corpuscles.Sleep is likewise a function of great importance to such childrenIf they will not sleep at all, or can only be got to sleep with gdifficulty, we administer Calc. 6, or Nux vom. 8, or Puis. 3, orsol, 3, a dose every two or three hours. If the children become exceedingly restless, so that they will noremain in their beds and have to be carried about all the time, tmost approved remedies for such a trouble are Arsen. 3, Bellad. 3JffnaL 3, Nux vom. 3, or Calc. 6, or Svlph. 6.If, especially during the period of dentition, they frequently stfrom their sleep and afterwards remain wakeful, we resort toChamom. 3, Cqfea 3, Nvx vom. 8, or Nairum mur. 6, or Silic. 6.The slow dentition of such children is attended with great delayin the process of ossification ; the fontanels remain open for atime, the skull-bones are thin and fragile, the articular cartilagrow thick and rickety ; the vertebral column and the long bonesare liable to become curved.704 Congenital Anaemia. In such cases Cede* 6 to 80, two doses a day, is a splendid remedwhich speedily regulates the digestive and assimilative functionsthus improving the quality of the blood and visibly promoting theprocess of ossification. What Iron is to chlorosis, Arsen. to hydmia, that hime is to delaying ossification. This remedy is likewiof great value where the skin is bloated, the abdomen meteoristically distended, the extremities are thin, the mesenteric glandswollen and where the patients are at the same time suflfering wigastnc, nasal or intestinal catarrhs. The continued use of thisremedy for several weeks, in increasingly large doses, accompanieby a proper dietetic management, may lead to favorable resultseven in cases where an hereditary disposition to tuberculosis ispresent.^If the delay in the process of ossification has already resultedactual curvatures; if single bones have become hypertrophied, ifangular edges of the long bones have become rounded off like cyliders, if the articular extremities become disproportionately largand the broad bones thick, we may be sure that osteomalacia hasset in. In such cases a gelatinous substance is found exuded intothe cells of the friable and interstitially distended osseous tisconsequence of which the bones not only become distorted, butosteoporosis takes place, or a dilatation of the medullary canalsand cells.Such phenomena find a sovereign remedy in Silicea 6 to 30, twodoses a day. What Lime is to a delaying ossification, that Siliceis to osteomalacia. Silicea, by first regulating the digestive anassimilative functions, corrects the composition of the blood andnot only secures a reabsorption of the gelatinous mass, but evenhttp://www.archive.org/stream/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog/sciencetherapeu00kafkgoog_djvu.txt
