ICT is also central to research based higher education curricula and our policy
in this matter has to contribute to the international attractiveness and visibility of
the University of Strasbourg.
This policy, published and shared by the whole university community, is the
result of a one-year long process where more than 50 projects have been defi ned
and structured into 7 programs covering the whole range of topics from infrastructures
to information systems, from virtual learning environments to web 2.0
internet platforms, e-contents production to editorial policy. It includes assistance
and training offers, communication and information, and takes into account
process management.
Projects to give access and develop to e-contents
The University of Strasbourg has developed over the years an effi cient network
including wifi connections all over the campus (600 hotspots). Moreover podcasting
has been developed with more than 100 lecture rooms equipped and
used to record courses and to broadcast them through the university information
system. The IT team has developed effi cient open-source software to easily
allow a teacher to record its lecture and broadcast it.
Starting in September 2010, a new intranet portal will be launched. This portal
will offer access for students, academics and staff to all the applications they
need: personal fi le, student record, timetables, specifi c applications, intranet
information, etc.
As a heritage of the former universities, several VLE (Virtual Management
Environment) were in use, some of them being ineffi cient and lacking robustness.
Starting in September 2010, Moodle as the new and unique VLE will be
deployed, both for distance and for blended learning.
In order to assist academics in developing uses and producing digital contents,
a specifi c program has been developed, including online tutorials, training sessions,
assistance to use specifi c tools such as VLE, editorial chains, etc. This
program is operated by the digital uses department.
Projects to promote e-contents
Producing, indexing, storing, distributing and promoting e-contents have been
a concern of our university community for several years. Access to these digital
resources is given to its students on purposely designed platforms or on Web
TV. To give more visibility to its resources and give the opportunity to its academics
to show their excellence in research, the University of Strasbourg has
recently decided to launch on iTunes U.
