FREEEAST TURKISTAN SYMPOSIUMof every imperialist. This region is also an area where China can send its surpluspopulation, as the population density here is 5 people per square kilometer, whilethe population density in China is over 160 people per square kilometer. Recently,a Communist Party politburo member Wang Lu Tshuan expressed the secretintentions of China against the region during an annual academic congress of theChinese Science and Technology Association in 2005: “With its wealth in oil andunique geographic location the region will surely be an energy base from whichto launch China’s economic advance in the 21st century.” 9 This statement clearlystates China’s plans concerning the benefits, privileges and future of EasternTurkistan. Whatever the consequences, it is not possible for China to ignore or toforego the aforementioned benefits. Thus, it can be clearly seen that China’s struggle over the region is a strategicone and that any social disorder, regardless of its source will not be tolerated. But extracting the untapped underground resources of the region, attaining aninfrastructure that is geared towards heavy industry, benefiting from these andensuring their continuance will not be possible if social tensions continue in thearea. However, it is estimated that all in all, the problems encountered today areno less than those encountered when the name of the region was changed fromEastern Turkistan. In an era when the rate of change is measured by technology, such a logic of “no turning back”, making China’s economy and the countrydependent on a colony, especially in a strategic sense, is a great gamble. In thiscase, what can provide China with its wishes for peace and stability? How can thepeople of Turkistan be forced to endure persecutions and torture forever?II. Statement of dividing Turkistan: Concerns and proposalsThe Cold War period has come to an end and the global economic has takenoff with scientific revolutions. A new era has begun for humanity. There is nowfierce competition over resources; but to reach domination you need to obtaincapital. Since China has made strategic choices in accordance with competitionthat is based on an income produced in the region, she also needs to come up withan integral situation for Eastern Turkistan. What one needs to ask is this: Whichstrategies will China employ when dividing Eastern Turkistan up demographicallyand culturally? How has China acted in the region after 9/11?318
