The Struggle in East Turkistan and Non-Governmental Organizations / Atty Gulden Sonmezborn in Istanbul. Aiming to raise awareness in Turkey and the internationalarena about the East Turkistan problem, the association organizes protests, pressmeetings and celebrations and commemorative events.In addition to the organizations established by the people of East Turkistan,there are other foundations and associations that work for the refugees and supportthe people of East Turkistan; some do this a nationalist perspective, while otherswork from an Islamic basis, in particular the Foundation For Human Rights andFreedom and Humanitarian Relief (IHH), the Association of Human Rightsand Solidarity for Oppressed People (MAZLUMDER), and the Association forSolidarity with Refugees.Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief 18Organizing activities, particularly in war-zones or post-war situations, disasterregions, or in countries and regions that are suffering from famine (almost 120countries in total), the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation also carries outhuman rights activities and humanitarian relief activities for the people of EastTurkistan. Aiming to establish and spread justice throughout the world and toallow people to live in respect by providing humanitarian relief services to theneedy and oppressed under the principle of fraternity, to spread good deeds andprevent oppression everywhere in the world, regardless of the location, the IHHHumanitarian Relief Association conducts activities to prevent any policy, activityor intention that is aimed at depriving people of their fundamental rights andfreedoms and/or leading them into a life of oppression and need. Following thismission, the association conducts various activities for East Turkistan. Some of theactivities conducted for East Turkistan can be listed as supporting East Turkistanorganizations, publishing books, broadcasting films and television programs anddocumentaries, organizing panels, symposiums and similar events, holding pressconferences, rallies and demonstrations, preparing reports and raising awarenessin the world.The foundation also provides humanitarian aid to East Turkistan refugeesin Turkey and other countries as well as The people of East Turkistan who arein need in their homelands. Protecting orphan children in East Turkistan, IHHHumanitarian Relief Foundation meets education, health care, clothing, food, etcfundamental requirements of the orphan children.535
