Forced Emigration and the Uyghur People, Who have been Destroyed Abroad / Majeda Mahlufof the Turkic language. This was also evident at the times of states like the QaraKhanion State, the Seljuk State and the Ottoman Empire, which originated fromEast Turkistan and spread throughout the world.When the Chinese Communist Party invaded East Turkistan in 1949, 80% ofthe population in the region was Uyghur. In total, counting other Turkic people,such as Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Uzbek, the percentage of Turkic population wasnearly 90%.The settlement of millions of Chinese people in East Turkistan is still ongoing.These people are being settled on Uyghur lands, leading to a change in thedemographic structure of East Turkistan. To encourage this process, tax indemnityis given to the Chinese people who settle in the region. On the other hand, housesand lands are taken from the Uyghur people by force and allocated to Chinesesettlers, and the Uyghurs are forced to migrate to rural areas and infertile lands,or to leave the country. Thus, the demographic structure has changed in favor ofthe Chinese, and the Uyghur people are now a minority in their motherland. TheUyghur people are leading isolated lives in work camps or in primitive villages orcounties. However, East Turkistan has had a so-called legal autonomous structuresince 1955. Despite this, the Chinese are exploiting the wealth and naturalresources of East Turkistan and occupying the important government positions.China has forced millions of workers throughout China to migrate to theUyghur lands and in this way has essentially invaded these lands. To encouragesuch migration, they use the motto: “Come Young People; Go West”. Theyhave settled millions of Chinese people in East Turkistan under the cover of thedevelopment and restructure of Turkistan. As a result, the Chinese population,which was only 9% in 1953, reached 48% earlier this century; this means thatthe Uyghur population, the original possessors of these lands, has decreasedfrom 90% to 45%. In this way, China has aimed to convert East Turkistan intoChinese lands and to dominate the destiny of the Uyghur people for economicand politic purposes. Because this region is China’s door that opens onto bothCentral Asia and the Middle East, and also because it has fertile natural sources,this region is seen as the backbone of the Chinese economy.
