In fact, the system of autonomy in EastTurkistan has never been applied and world public opinion has been deceived, aswell as the people of Turkistan; thousands of opponents of this provision havebeen arrested.Liberation movements and the demand for the rightsof Turkistan in international forumsThere are dozens of associations and movements that have been working formany years to demand the rights of Turkistan; this is done through activities andevents, in keeping with the physical and legal potential, in many countries, such asTurkey, the United States, and EU countries, most notably in Germany and somecountries of Central Asia; due to time constraints it is not possible to mentionall of them here. To date there has been no opportunity that was conducive toraising the issue of East Turkistan in international forums due to the escalationof China’s power. But the events of July 5, 2009 have turned the tables, and theworld has begun to realize who the residents of East Turkistan are and what theircause is.For 60 years the issue of Turkistan has not gone away; the forms of resistancehave continued, whether carried out by individuals or institutions. Here I wouldlike to mention some of the leading people from Turkistan, people who sacrificedtheir lives for their cause:- The leader Mohammed Emin Bugra (1901-1965)- The leader Isa Yusuf Alptekin (1901-1995)- And now Ms. Rabia Kader (may God prolong her life) continues this matteras a representative on the World Uyghur Congress, which emerged after theInternational East Turkistan Conference was held in Istanbul in 1992; the wheelof life will continue and the people of Turkistan will continue to demand theirlegitimate rights; they will be independent.590
