They range from human rights abuses, religious deprivation,economic inequality, loss of identity, forced assimilation; indeed, the list goes on. Thiswork sheds light on one of the problems which has become a cause of distress, anger anddissatisfaction for the Uyghur people in their homeland and a heated topic of debate formany international observers around the world. This subject is “the economic instabilityof East Turkistan and its impact on the people”. I hope this humble work will help toexpose the dirty tricks of the Chinese Communist regime and awaken many of those wholook positively on the Chinese government.IntroductionI would like to start my presentation with a brief background of East Turkistan.East Turkistan, known as the land of the Turks in Persian, measures around1.8 million square kilometres and is situated in central Asia. It is twice as large asthe Republic of Turkey, or four times the size of France, constituting 1/6 th of theentire Chinese territory. Historically, this region lay at the crossroads of severalcivilizations and it currently borders with China and Mongolia to the east, Russiato the north, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Indiato the west, and Tibet to the south. East Turkistan is the homeland of the Turkicspeaking Uyghurs and other Central Asian peoples, such as the Kazakhs, Kyrgyz,Uzbeks, Tatars and Tajiks.417
