Road to Freedom and Self-determination: Imagining the Future of East Turkestan / Dr Izzeddin al-Wardaninumber of Han migrants in East Turkestan and their wealth, is the probabilityof it falling into the hands of a faction of Han-style dictators like Jin Shu Renand Chen Shi Coi, who ruled East Turkestan in the last century, to a large extentindependent of the authority of the weak central government in China. This canbe avoided by the unity of the Turkestan resistance movements, the power ofsolidarity, the total avoidance of internal conflicts and the removal of any factorsthat would separate the various elements of the people and organizations inTurkestan. One of these factors is the name. What is desired for any movementor organization is that it is inclusive of all the different Turkic peoples livingin East Turkestan, and not just the Uyghur, the Kazakh, the Kirghiz, or others.Whoever does not take action might fuel internal conflict at a crucial period andsome might even be pushed to split off and join others on the other side of theborder. Let us learn from history. Let us trust in God and in our own capabilities,act with courage and perseverance, and adopt different ways to support the peopleof Turkestan. Inevitably, we will find a way to resolve or mitigate the problems.Optimism is necessary. We have to stay on the course of doing whatever is possiblewith intense, serious and conscientious work in order to advance the cause of theseoppressed people who have been suffering for so many years in East Turkestan.May God’s peace, mercy and blessing be upon you.577
