Over 200 Tibetans were killed andmore than 6,500 Tibetans were detained or arrested. It is certain that the totalfigures may be far greater than reported. Last year two Tibetans were executedand many sentenced to life imprisonment. Since spring 2008, Tibetans continueto remain in detention or serving prison sentences.Since the pan-Tibet protests in the spring of 2008, the Tibetan areas thatwere incorporated into the Sichuan province have clearly become the focal pointfor the whole of present-day Tibet. Thus, in the recent past, the focus of politicalactivities has shifted from the TAR. The current crisis in Tibet is a manifestationof decades of Chinese repression - human rights violations, as well as the culturaland political discrimination of the Tibetan people.Tanks and helicopters, including elite units of the People’s Liberation Army,were involved in the crackdown on Tibetan protesters.
