The Future in East Turkistan / Fahmy HoweidiAny act of informing the public should have be objective and clearly presented.What is required here at this time is that the media discourse of Turkistancitizenship in China should be focused on; this in turn is based on three pillars:respect of national identity, respect of human rights, and the establishment ofautonomy.Finally, I would like focus on four things:The Arab and Islamic world are the most appropriate to bring this case forwardand to maintain the enthusiasm; as previously stated, they are an important marketfor Chinese goods and interests, and they can positively or negatively affect theChinese government in their treatment of the Muslims of Turkistan.The second point: Documenting this issue with publications preserves thehistory and makes clear the stages it has undergone; also it is important to recordthe characteristics of East Turkistan before it melts into the great Chinese sea.The third thing: The human rights’ violations which occur in Turkistanmust be documented and recorded, and an annual report should be completed,including all the events that happen every year. It must not be forgotten that anabsence of documentation and poor communication with the media means thatpublic opinion will forget the harsh repression that Turkistan underwent a fewmonths ago. The death sentences that were issued and imposed have not been metwith the outrage they deserve.The fourth point: This is the claim of the right to citizenship. This may bein keeping with the demand of the Chinese classes, which includes activistsadvocating for freedom and defending human rights in China. A convergencewith these activists may be possible in order to intensify the pressure for defendingthe dignity of the Muslims in Turkistan.583
